Hey guys. The server is up.

I make the request that the mods keep this thread alive for a little while, and update Ennui's sticky thread with the new server info and let this one eventually fall by the wayside or lock it.

But for now, here's the new server information.

EDIT: latest info

Connect to your server by using: raziaar.mynecraft.com

You can also use the IP if the domain is not working for some reason. 184.106.140.42

Keep me informed in this thread for now on your experiences with the new server. Our overviewer stuff will run every night at about 1am PST I think Steve said it was... and so I will no longer have to mess with it.

Will post information for that stuff when I get access to it.

Also if you have not donated yet and you had intended to, even though we have the server up for the first month we could still use your donations for future months payments.

Yay, I can sleep easy now... all of this has been very stressful.

Nice. I'll go on a test run later tonight.

Could we please disable the "Saving map..." notifications?

Other then that, seems to run smoothly.

I can't get in at all.

I guess things aren't that smooth. I thought it was my download of Fallout: New Vegas in the background that was causing the lag. It wasn't. It kept getting worse and then I lost connection to the server. I can't seem to connect to it now. Hope it didn't crash.

Do I need to do anything special when logging in? I typed in the IP with the port as is (with the ':' and everything) but I get a "stream ended" message or something like that.

I guess some issues with logging on is to be expected. Hopefully they are easy fixes that the guys we are paying can take care of. :p

Only a minor (and also miner) problem - the backup seems to be a bit older than a previous one, either that or someone filled up my glass walkway with dirt and water... But really other than needing 10min to redo that bit the new server seems great.

Guys. I am not sure what is going on right now with it.

I do know that the web admin has been working on some things on the site and stuff, though doubt it'd have anything to do with the servers.

I'll get to the bottom of it tomorrow.

I need to get to bed. Can't afford to stay up late tonight... as I'm coming down with a sickness and hopefully it won't be bad by morning.

I kind of expect the first couple days to be a bit rough but hopefully they won't be a sign of the continued quality of the server.

Honestly, if this thing ends up flopping completely(which I doubt it will), I'll be willing to eat up all the costs of this.

I can't connect. It sits at "Logging in..." for a minute, and then it says "Connection Lost. End of Stream"

Don't get a headache over this, just email the admins and pass on the problem. Thanks!

Steve(I'm just going to call him Steve) says the issue last night had to do with the DDoS attacks.

We'll see.

Tim,

Stepping out early yesterday doesn't seem to have been such a good idea. I was feeling ill in the afternoon, and before I left I escalated your tickets to high priority.

Well, the issue arose where I had you on a 64 man server yet you were only set for 24. Rather than giving me a call they decided "Eh, let him deal with it". So heads are rolling.

I'll setup the server this afternoon when things calm down. You're getting a credit for two weeks, and the new control panel which will be released this weekend will be available to you early..

I'm everywhere all the time. I'm on live chat, I'm provisioning servers, and I'm writing code. There are two other people building this monster with me, but I run the show.

I am dedicated to giving everyone a personal and fun experience. For you it's a little more personal, as I'm excited about having you as my customer.

I'm adding notes to your account that no one but me is to make any decisions regarding your account or server. I'm sorry for the mess, and not following through with my word.

If two weeks credit is not enough compensation, or you still feel after today that I have not met your every need I need you to tell me.

Please use ************** should you need anything. That's the email that comes to my home and cellphone. If you have an immediate issue, and want to thwart the support system I encourage you to call me directly ************.

We had more orders yesterday than in the past 4 days combined. Things are getting a little nuts, and that is no excuse for me not following through as I promised. I'm just letting you know. No matter how hectic things become over here I will always keep you and your server as top priority.

I apologize for any and all inconvenience I may have caused you. Rest assured that everything will be straightened out today. I am sorry for our incompetence.

Thanks,
Steve

Holy shit, the number for customer service doesn't go to India!

But damn, I have a lot of respect for that guy now.

Sounds like a pretty cool guy.

Seems like an honorable man, interested in his customers having the best experience. This is a lot better than a lot of companies treat customer service. We can always switch if it sucks, but I have a feeling that this is the best long-term option.

Man, I don't know how he's going to deal with the exponential increase in amount of customers. Managing everyone on a personal level is nuts. I wonder if he expected such a successful venture. It's like Notch all over again.

It would be neat if he said 'sorry no more accounts' and just stuck with handling existing customers. We'd be one of the lucky few! All thanks to Raz.

At first I was sad at the new long ip address because I just kept a file on my desktop with the servers ip on it, and as we all know windows won't let you have ':' in the title, and then I remembered AHK and so I made a macro that just sends the ip and hits enter for me by pressing windows+m. Gotta love lazy tech.

On topic: Steve sounds awesome and very dedicated to making sure the server runs great. Hopefully it will be up again soon!

Actually he has talked exactly about that, if it comes to pass.

The resources for this site come from my (Steve's) career. Each of the servers are located at Rackspaces' state-of-the-art hosting facility. If you know anything about server hosting, you'll know Rackspace is the best. Period. There's no room for argument there.

Each server is a dedicated Linux box built to our standard specifications for each server type and player count. We only run Linux for our Minecraft servers, but then again running it on Windows would be like foolish (resource/cost wise). The servers are on a OC48 connection, and each server has a full 1Gbit connection.

For now we're just having fun, but we're very serious about the project. The price of each server is at 80% cost to us. We figure we'll just continue to service our current members if those costs for new equipment rise, and shut-down new memberships.

Sorry we don't have the server up yet for this weekend guys. I would have liked to, but we're just not at that point yet.

You guys just need to find some other stuff to do with your weekend. Play Civilization 5 maybe if you own it.

(KineticAesthetic or Ennui, can one of you update the main server thread to include the latest server information please?)

raziaar,

This is a message to inform you that your server has been reprovisioned with the latest version of our Minecraft Server. The newest version of the control panel requires many of our servers to have their software upgraded, this includes you.

With the latest software come several enhancements to the Minecraft server. Most important of all the features is the memory handling. This newest server allows the Minecraft server to use almost 40% less memory per active user. Along with this upgrade it also has a kill switch that will automatically reboot your server should there be a memory usage abnormality. This will greatly reduce support tickets for us, and lag/reboots for you.

Other things included in this update are:

New server commands to be posted on our Server Commands page when the new control panel is live

Proper handling of colors for both users and groups

Data integrity monitor - If you have entered an invalid data type in your control panel, or have created conflicting users/groups that would normally prevent the server from functioning. This will revert the server to its default settings, and let you know there is a problem in your control panel, and how to correct it.

!restart command only for owner of the server. This means only the username that ordered the server can use the command.
!newworld command will delete your current world, and generate a new one. This too can only be used by the account owner. This will eliminate the issue of snow worlds being regenerated. (no one likes snow worlds) =(

/btf [NumberofMinutes]
This command will allow you to reload the backup from the number of minutes ago that you specify.
Usage: /btw 20
Will load the backup from 20 minutes ago

Since the backups occur every 5 minutes note that this command will round up to the nearest 5 minute interval

Daily Google Maps - Your server will no longer generate your Google Maps. We have put two map rendering servers in-place to generate your map every 24 hours. The files are stored on your server, and the map renderer will access them and render them from your server over the network via smb share.

Google Map Notification - You can setup an email to be automatically sent to you when a new map is generated.

On demand Google Map - You can spontaneously render a Google Map via your control panel twice every 24 hours. An email will be sent when it is complete.

These are the main changes in the latest update, but there are over a dozen more that you probably won't notice. Map sharing has been put off another week just because I've been too busy setting up the new software to deploy it. You will however be able to access your maps and backups through the map interface.

If you have any questions about the newest upgrades please feel free to email me (********). If you have a technical issue related to this upgrade or anything else please email ********. (I edited out these e-mails since I'll be the one to do the requests of that nature).

Your post upgrade server information is as follows:

Connect to your server by using: raziaar.mynecraft.com
The DNS for the above domain was freshly set this morning. It may take up to two hours before it is available.

You can also use you IP if the domain is not working for some reason.
Your IP is:
184.106.140.42

The Control Panel update should be done within two hours form now. You'll receive another email when it is complete.

Thanks,
Mynecraft.com

I was able to get in for a few minute finally, but I got kicked out again and can't get back in :(

I got in for a while... It kicked me after a few moments but then I got in again and things have been fine since then.

Remember! Don't explore until the Halloween update. We want any new explorations to spawn with the new blocks.

Depressing!!

we haven't been able to play on our Minecraft server for ages. i'm resorting to hanging out with friends and finish other games of mine :/

What.. the... ****ing... hell.

This is the exact same problem that happened before. End of Stream.

It's bad enough that we've already been down this long, and then lost our items.... but then the server is down again and we haven't barely been able to touch it? If this keeps up, I'll probably end up forgetting about minecraft all together. I propose that....

If the server is not stable by Wednesday morning, we look for other options.
If the server is not stable by Friday night, we ask for a refund.

I just... I don't understand why we're having the exact same end of stream issue that we had the first time around.

I mean, we haven't had that problem when Hokey was hosting it. It's... entirely frustrating, and yes there's only so far we can go with this. I still want to give it a chance but there's a limit to the length we can go.

we'll figure something out, but I don't think we should give up on these guys yet. We just bought a month, so we can see how good of a job they do in that month... assuming they fix this initial problem soon.

I got on for awhile that then it booted me.

Oh well. I got single player... transitioning back is challenging. I jumped of a few cliffs before I remembered that I could take damage. Its also frustrating to have my picks wear out on me. I think the iron and diamond picks should last longer.

Friday? Pff, I think that's going a bit easy on them. These guys are a business, not your buddies, right? I'd say Wednesday tbh.

The server hasn't been working since Thursday? Yeah, if this is truly the problem of the providers, you should be compensated for in either a refund or time. Four days of no MP is still four days you paid for.

Found a list of minecraft servers. Appears prices will be anywhere between $15 and $45 depending on what features we want.

It's not just about giving them a chance, it's about preserving the opportunity for us. I've talked to people who have servers with this guy, and they are satisfied with it... it's just, ours has run into some issues for some reason.

Because of the difficulties and lack of uptime as I posted before, he has given us more time in credit than what we had lost.

The server is up right now, but honestly I don't know the status of it, if it's just going to croak or not. I haven't received any responses from Steve or anything.

I was able to connect for about 15 minutes, but it's back down again.

P.S. Do you have a URL for the new google-maps thing?

Holy sheeeeeet, once I build a new comp, we might have to bring this thing back over.
