Hey,

I have a problem heres my system
AMD 1.6ghz cpu
768mb pc2700 ram
9800 pro 128mb 256bit

In the CS: S video stress test i get roughly 53 fps with default graphics settings, in game the fps vary from 20 - 60

I have tried lowering the detail to low and 640 x 480 and it has only given me a fps increase to only 57fps ...

I know my Graphics card is capable of MUCH MUCH more

What the hell is wrong here ??? Please help, i have also tried running in lower directx modes running in dx8.1 caused my fps to run at 66fps

I also get a pinkish tinge on the floor, guard rails, and the turning things in the Stress test. But this pinkish tinge only happens occasionaly and i havnt been able to put it down to any particular setting.

Edit: I am using the latest CATALYST drivers.

Mods please move this to the support section, sorry.

Most likely your cpu is holding you back some. (especially if when lowering the details doesn't give better performance)

But this is stupid i got about the same if not more FPS with my old gfx card a geforce 3 ti200

lol I get 93 fps on the stresstest with my Radeon 9200 :D

Definatley CPU. I'm held at 30fps due to my 1.3ghz processor.

Looks like you need to upgrade your cpu and possibly mobo.
Why?:
1.is your mobo a 4xAGP board or 8xAGP
if a 4xAGP your card is being held back.

2. As your 1.6 athlon runs with a 266fsb your pc2700 RAM will be underclocked as it will be running at 266fsb instead of 333fsb.
Have a look on the forums here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/ and ask for some help on the best upgrade for you budget to get that vid card and RAM working to their max.

Ok heres the analagy:
Your cpu (1.6 athlon)is a tap with water dribbling out and your old 'Geforce 3' is a crappy sprinkler system.
Now with this system you can water your lawn a little but it still doesn't look green and lush.
So you bought the best sprinkler system you could (your 9800pro) but as your tap is crap you still cant water your lawn any better so it still looks the same.

So you can see to solve the problem you need a better tap and more water.

Hope some of this helps :)

AGP 4x and AGP 8x show no real world performance differences. However, I do agree with Blank about the new CPU. With an Athlon XP 2500 and a Radeon 9800 Pro I get around 70fps at 1280x960.

Upgrade your CPU and you should be very happy.

Oh btw I only get the pinkish tinge if I run the Video Stress Test a couple times in a row. It's just a matter of restarting CS.

I have a 2ghz P4 and a radeon 9700 pro and I got 57 fps average once through the stress test. They've said the source engine is more cpu intensive than gpu. I'm upgrading to a 3ghz P4 soon, expecting that to help a lot. But 60fps average is actually pretty good considering my computer is about 2 years old.

Thanks for the help i thought it might be CPU limited, but i dont really wanna spend more money after spending $350 AUD on new card :) and yes i know my ram is underclocked i have manually underclocked it. and the 4x agp only reduces performance by about 2-4% ..
