When I run D3 on my PC it seems to be lagging for some reason... I have a GeForce4 graphics card and have re-configured the settings to low quality video (in game options), to no avail. Can anyone help?

Describe what you mean by lagging. As in the mouse lags? The sound lags? You're getting a low fps?

I mean as in online lagging. But NOT online, in the single player game. Yeah, i guess its kinda like the mouse lagging. Any suggestions?

What type of geforce 4 is it?

"In-Game Lagging"

Is there any other kind? :p

It really all depends on your PC specs. RAM, CPU, etc.

So spill it! You have a crap box don't you!?

AMD athlon 2400+

2 ghz

348MB RAM

biatch...

what kind of geforce 4 is it? if it's an MX, no wonder its so slow. Plus you could definately use some more ram. 384*

all geforce 4s suck, and u need better comp, i get decent fps, average of 50 sepcs:2.26ghz 512mb ram 9800pro 400core 360mem

Well, could you give me an alternative to getting a new computer? Something that I could do with what I have, maybe?

ok, first, try building ur own comp

here is the specs u would want to play doom3 good

around 3.0ghz
1gig ram
about 48x for cd rom speed
about 350-400w of power sup
and here is ur choic of x800 xt or 6800gt, if i were u, i would go with the x800 xt, it will do better in hl2
case
cooling system
moniter that can refresh perhaps 85-100
speeker
keyboard n mouse
and other stuff i didnt mention

all these would prolly cost about 2500-3000

Perhaps you can't read in your young age, or watching AvP has made you so scared you're up to your eyes in shit but I asked, politely if some one could give me an alternative to buying a new computer, tard face.

Rinse and repeat.

well, **** u
u can get a stick of ram, prolly 256 costs about 25-50
can get a new card, at least geforce fx5200 or radeon 9600
u can try to overclock ur proccessor
thats about it ass **** head

Look man, I dont have a load of cash to spend on building my own cpu. I just wanna know if there are any ways of making my current one run D3 any faster.

And watch that mouth, biatch.

u started it dumb ass, and to make it run any faster, try lowering everything to lowest, and i mean lowest, and on advanced settings, turn everything off, and search the site for tweaks to make the game go faster, get new drivers for all ur stuff, try over clocking it if u can

Jesus man...like little children, anyway hokai,
your CPU is fine, I'd suggest a litte more ram, maybe 256 megs. If your Geforce 4 is a ti with 128 megs of ram, it should do fine for a little while longer. If it's a geforce 4 MX I'd consider upgrading ASAP.

Ram would be most important. IMO
Adding 256MB would be great. Grab some good PC2100 (DDR266) or PC2700 (DDR333) on sale at your local store or order it online.

If your graphics card is a GF4 MX it would be a good idea to upgrade that but it isn't quite as important as bumping up your memory.

If you only have PCI slots and no AGP slots then I would suggest grabbing either a FX5200 or 9200.

If you have an AGP slot then I would recommend at least a 9600SE, which you can pick up for 130$ at Compusa or Best Buy.

Sapphire and Compusa now have an ATI 9550 card that I have seen so far and it's around 150$, stay away from this card. It is only marginally better than the 9200 and 9000.

A 9600Pro online for just over 100$ would be your best bet for an AGP card at a low cost.

Anyway, thanks to everyone that is actually helping, especially Vigilante and Asus.

FYI, a GeForce 4 (non MX) destroys an FX 5200.

Where did I say you didn't help?

Could we stay to topic please.

pretty much what everyone in here is trying to say is that with your current graphics card/RAM, you're going to have to expect a low fps.

doom3 is a demanding game, and requires a pretty beefy system to handle it.

i have the same problem... same graphics card i think aswell.
its low fps... VERY low

Okay, so RAM is most important, second being a graphics card... Was there not a D3 graphics card package released like ATI were going to do with HL2? If so, then I could find out the best graphics card to buy for running demanding FPS's like D3 (and HL2, hopefully in the near future LOL).
