In-game pop-up window

Can anybody point me in the direction of a working tutorial for implementing an in-game pop-up window? I've been stumped on this for quite a few hours, and some help would be great.

What kind of pop-up are you after? Your best bet is to try opening a VGUI2 menu.

Opening a menu would probably accomplish what I am after. Do you know of any turtorials related to this?
