Well, as far as I can tell I've widdled the problem into one thing. A lack of files. The Steam install seems to give me only the bare minimum, lacking all .dll files and most Blob files, so it won't run.

If someone could provide me a screenshot of their Steam directory with all of the files I should need, that would be great. It would be even greater if they uploaded some of those files onto sites in which I can download (because it's very difficult finding them through the internet).

Thanks for the help, if any of you out there have some free time.

Edit(1): Steam now picks up the Steam.dll file I found, but not the SteamUI.dll file.

V-V-Verify your S-S-Steam C-C-Cache.

U-u-u-uninstalll and r-r-r-e-install.

Is that impossible, or does it give you the bare m-m-minimum of files on r-r-reinstallat-t--tion?

D-d-d-ownloading S-S-Steam files from n-n-non-S-s-steam websites is fraught w-w-with p-peril, at b-b-best.

Heh, yea I tried uninstall and reinstall several times, making sure to repair and fix any files that were broken.

All my firewalls are turned off, and all traces of Norton running on my computer are gone. I've managed to pick up all of the .dll's from a friend of mine, and now they are all being read, but I get error 201. I saw somewhere that this is because of a bad installation (I hate this), but I an't get a good one and I've seen people who get by this problem.

Even though the firewall is off, I've still got it set to let Steam through on any and all ports, and I'm online now, so I don't know why it's acting like this.

All the .dll's with the error: http://img409.imageshack.us/my.php?image=steamproblem3tc5.png

Firewall settings (Note it is off): http://img256.imageshack.us/my.php?image=steamfirewallzt3.png

I'm trying to make this as easy as possible with as many screens as possible, if you need an information please tell me and I'll get it. I'm getting quite desperate.

Are you using the one Steam install file? Have you tried using different Steam install files, i.e. from the internets (from Valve)? Your original Steam install file might be broken, I don't know.

I've tried a total of two different installs, one from HalfLifePlanet and the official one on the Steam website. If there are any other reliable installers that you could offer, I would vastly appreciate it.

H-h-have you tried from the DVD and/or CD?

Or did you buy online?

Nevermind, I got it up and running. The firewall for Norton was allowing any programs in G:\Valve\Steam to run, but I had switched my computer to a two hardrive setup so everything was on D, not G. Just switched that up and everything works fine now.

Thanks for the help though, without the stuff you said about going to the Steam website and looking through it, I would not have found out about it.

Lolz!

*kicks partitioned hard-drive*

Yeah, I hate it when that happens. ><
