In need of team for a multiplayer mod...

I have an idea for a multiplayer mod that I would really like to go forward with, but to do that I'll need a team.

Two players (I'm still finding a way to make this work with more than 2 players) are put in a city map where loads of NPCs exist. One of the players plays the role of the Target and the other one the Assassin.

The target would have to follow his routines like go to work, go somewhere, etc.. He would also have free time of course. The target knows that someone in the NPC infested city is out there to kill him, but he doesn't know who it is.

The assassin needs to kill the target. He knows who he is he just doesn't know where he is.
If the target has 'met' the assassin then the routines he has will be null and he can do whatever he pleases such as run, escape de city, deal with the assassin.

Each round would be in game time 24 hours and real time (our time) maybe 24 minutes. (I still need to figure out good times)

You'de be able to buy weapons (obviously) and I was also thinking of some AI cops to which you can report the assassin once you have met him.

This is just an idea but I would really like to go forward with it.
Oh, I also thought of a name, not very interesting really: Survival 24 (As in survive for 24 hours...)

Could you PM me and expand a little more on this idea of yours? I think you might just be perfect for a multiplayer mode for the mod I'm going to try and run, and I'd love you to try and get the multiplayer aspect of it going. I think it's a great idea :)

If so, I'll PM you what I have of the design document so far (3/4 of it).

"I don't know how I can really explain it more, I've said pretty much the main concept in the post but I'll try anyway :)

I was thinking about a mod where people actually got a feeling that they were being hunted by an unknown person in a people (NPC) infested city.
The target would have to go about his daily routines which could be going to the office, free time (such as lunch time), etc.. If he didn't obey his routines the assassin would get a message about the target's location. This would make the player playing the target obeying the routines.
I also though about an AI police that could help the target since he is in clear disadvantage.
I still need to think more about this, if you are interested in helping then just reply to the PM.

Also note that I need people to do this, the only thing I can do is map since my C/C++ coding experience is close to nothing really.

i think you'd have to make things more interesting for the 'target'. i can't imagine it'd be very interesting just doing these daily chore type things! otherwise, like i say, i'm interested
 
Heh, you said the exact same thing another person said on the VERC forums (where I posted as well). I know it has to be more interesting, mundayne things would get boring. But I honestly can't think of anything, help would be appreciated :)
 
I had a very similar idea for gameplay, only never concidered it being a mod.

You need to take some things into concideration. Things like:
- Two people are not going to want to sit down for 24 hours.
- The person who is the 'target' has to have proper goals or they will get bored.
- Running lots and lots of NPCs will kill systems.

You could mess with the gameplay a little. The Assassin has to buy weapons and ammo at the start of a match and must use them to the end, where as the Target can buy weapons from "stores".

You could have both players play as an assassin, and in your city (assuming it is one) each assassin will get a message telling them a description and location of the target. First one to kill the target gets a point. After the target is killed, it messages both players about another target (targets are NPCs). If you die in a round your dead till the next round, that way you could have cops in the street to prevent the assissins from just going bezerk in an area to kill a target.

If they kill an innocent civilian they loose money, and if they kill the target they get money, then they can buy weapons/items at designated areas.

Your idea for the two assassins is quite nice actually.
Reading that I also thought that if an assassin kills an NPC civilian which isn't the target, instead of losing money, they would get 'hunted' by an AI police.
Well, that kind of strays from my original idea, but I'll keep it in mind since I like it, thanks for the input.

As for the 24 hours thing, in my first post I explained that was the game time, not real life time. I was thinking maybe 24 minutes or adjustable round times.

yeah i think EatChildren (!) has a point in that lots of NPCs would kill systems, especially in a multiplayer mod. which is a shame cause i think the idea of 2 asassins hunting someone (or something) down while trying to catch each other out is very nice! :D

Unless of course the game had a minimum number of players in it and everybody had some sort of target and it'd be a case of trying to find who/what your target is through all the other people! But then that could be a real bore to play if it wasn't done right! Or maybe even if it was!

possibly, i'm working on another mod at the moment so it depends on how things go on that
 
Anyway, I'd like to at least talk to you about this concept, because I like i t a lot, and I think it'd definately work as a multiplayer to my hopeful modification.

There was an old HL1 modification that followed this exact same premise, but sadly, it died. THeir changes, however, were that there was no limit to the team of assassins and the target was randomly selected. The target looked just like a civ NPC, but he was actually an undercover criminal, or something, and had to complete an objective like planting a bomb or taking a picture of something top-secret, all while maintaining anonymity. Obviousl, the Police goal was to kill him. It'd require some fine-tuning, but could be great.
 
Hmm, very interesting... Do you know any of the people that were making that modification? Or the ones that had the idea?
