Inability to install games

Anyone else fighting with Steam over the fact whether it should install a game or not? Yesterday it kept claiming that my TFC cache file would be corrupted, so I let it kill it. From then it claimed to be reinstalled. But as soon I click install, it locks up for a bit, then gets responsive again and it doesn't install the game. In short it did NOTHING to change the update status.

Anyone else having this issue, and maybe found a way to force it?

Well, mine wont install stuff, even though i downloaded the huge version i cant play anything. And it wont recognise my third party mods. HOw do i tell it to check for installed stuff again, it did it ages ago on the wrong installation of HALFLIFE so know it wont do it again!

Wow now I managed to get it registered as active game, it starts downloading a bit and then stops. The status reverted to "Do not update", and when setting it to Autoupdate, I get "Failed to get valid content ticket".

Just great. Really.
