Weird topic title. I know.

I was watching the movie 'Wrong Turn', about these inbred cannibals... blah blah blah. Terrible movie.

Anyways, got me thinking. I wanted to find some stuff on what exactly nature does to produce the abnormalities, disfigurements, and other problems seen when you have inbred species, whether human or not.

Any of you able to find some information on the net for me about the science of interbreeding and the problems associated with it? The subject fascinates me. The thought of it sickens me, but the subject fascinates me in how it produces so many physical problems with later generations.

I guess the term is called 'Inbreeding Depression'

EDIT: So far i've only been able to find some stuff about dogs, not humans, which i'm more interested in. They say that the Hawaiian and European Royal families, as well as the more ancient pharoahs are good examples of interbreeding.

well... the genes mutate when people of the same genetic track mate. These mutations in the genotypes can be expressed through phenotypes such as an extra toe, disfigured form, etc. The deformations usually only appear after a couple inbreeding but it would happen with mating one time. As you can image, when the offspring of an incestual mates again, that child's mutated genomes will be expressed to an even greater degree. i hope i explained enough

Well I guess what I want to know is... why they mutate. On a scientific level.

Its like pirating vhs videos. By the time you've copied the copy of the copy of the copied copy, It's ****ed.

Its good nature has a way of removing the genetically weak, if a genetic line becomes too inbred they will become sterile......good.

In england there was some inbred family that all looked like horses or something wierd.

My opinion is cleanse their genes from the gene pool with a flamethrower.....its ****ing sick.

Thats interesting.
Its descusting. Look how much of a chance of defects

but look how in the study, inbreeding was in some ways helpfull in japan!

-souce johnmedz link (bold type for emphasis)
There were significant increases in levels of handicapped offspring associated with inbreeding. Inbreeding was associated with a 37.5% increase in offspring with one or two major handicaps, while it also caused a 24.1% increase in offspring with one or two minor defects. Moreover, inbreeding caused an increase of 31.7% in hearing impairments. Development also seemed to be affected by inbreeding. Children of consanguineous marriages were significantly older than the control group when they first walked and talked.

The study did not only show harmful effects of inbreeding in Japan. School performance, which is a vital part for betterment in their culture, showed no significant change with inbreeding. In fact, intelligence seemed to be more influenced by socioeconomic class. Furthermore, inbreeding also seemed to be beneficial when examining some aspects of health. Offspring from the inbreeding group showed a 14.3% decrease in allergies and a 23.9% decrease in nephritis, a rare genetic disorder that causes inflammation of the kidneys (Schull 1965).
