Whenever I look at models such as bottles, cars, ragdolls, ect. they fade out at too close a distance for my liking. Is there any way to increase the draw distance of models in the game? Or is it just a matter of a weak graphics card?

There's a console command to force it, however. I can't recall it.

isnt the command like cl_drawdetail or something? My comp has a 128 mb graphics card and only 256 mb RAM, so it pretty much sucks. Its kinda annoying how i have to crouch by a bottle or a coffee mug in order to see it at all!

I found this command. You could try it.

cl_maxrenderable_dist [distance] - Specifies the maximum distance from the camera at which things will be rendered. The smaller the number, the less will be rendered, improving performance (cheat).

I don't know how much that will help. It will probably set your performance back a bit. Though ultimately, I think that your video/rest of your computer is what is holding you back and you'll need to upgrade to fully appreciate HL2's graphical capabilities.
