So, I am borrowing this game from a friend.

It looks pretty interesting, but is it worth the play?

I suppose I ask this because I was going through the tutorial and the controls are the most atrocious thing I've ever dealt with in PC gaming.

Controls that could be so simple are so complicated and stupid (IE: instead of using WSAD to move character front, backward, left, and right, and using mouse to look freely... you have to use arrow keys, left and right turn the angle of your character and down arrow makes a U turn while you have to hold down right mouse button to move view around) And there's more, but christ the controls are ****ing retarded, playing it in the tutorial feels incredibly uncomfortable...

I tried the PC demo and couldn't figure out how to ****in do anything with the mop. I swear to God I pushed every ****in button on my keyboard. From what I've heard its a great game...maybe better on the console though...isn't there a keyboard/mouse setting you can change?

It's okay.

More like a interactive movie then a game.
Intesting story I thought.

I thought it was great, the only thing I didn't like was the story. The last third is really retarded.

Keep playing until around halfway through, and then stop because the story will cause your head to explode.

If you don't believe me then

It turns out that its the work of an ancient evil aztec cult looking to rule the world or some shit, I forgot, anyway it turns out that THE INTERNET (yes the internet is a villian) is also looking for the indigo child so it can uh..wipe out humanity and just be the internet I guess. Also at some point in the story, the main character dies, comes back to life, joins a group of underground freedom fighter hobos and has sex with the female main character which is some straight up zombie sex

Heard the story was unbelievably shit.

WHAT?
That makes less sense than the whole MGS series..:|
NVM give the game back, don't waste your time with this bullshit.

It's interesting at first, but goes downhill around halfway through.

WHAT?
That makes less sense than the whole MGS series..

And at one point you also fight harpys in a chruch for absolutely no reason at all.

You suck at video games. Never played a game where you have to rotate your character before you walk? REALLY?

You couldn't honestly type that with conviction/a straight face, could you?

The story's weird, but it's a damn good game.

It's an awesome game, but like many have said the last part is really shit. The game does an excellent job of drawing you in and feeling for your characters. Alas this game was the victim of a game that was designed to be episodic, hence the reason the last part feels rushed and messed up. I'd still recommend playing it especially if you're not paying for it.

Loved the demo.

Never got around to playing the full game. :( Mate's got it. Not sure why I haven't borrowed it.

OH REALLY? Please explain.

Keep playing until around halfway through, and then stop because the story will cause your head to explode.

Weird, yes (and certainly very stupid toward the end). But as nauesatingly complex, convoluted and badly-written as, say, the entire MGS series? No.

I loved it... Although yes, the story gets meh even though it could have gone to great places.

Story at first is great, then it sucks, then it gets kinda cool once you're used to the idea, then you realize that its still not cool, then it ends.

All in all, I liked it. You should play it fo sho,

I didn't care so much about the cult. What really pissed me off was the internet.

Game starts awesome. Gets gay once it actually starts answering the questions it brings up.

Never really got that, since I uh.. killed the internet before anyone could explain anything. Also, old ladies are out to steal yer kids! I got the 'good' ending.

I've played Fahrenheit (your untermenschen Indigo Prophecy term is loathsome to me, the European ubermensch) and I really like the game. Apart from some great writing and a good (not groundbreaking, but still) story it's redeeming quality is that it tried to do something different. Just like SHOC, the game is unlike any other in it's genre, both in terms of presentation and interface.

The gameplay is quite varied and manages to keep my interest long enough to focus on the story. Which, quite frankly, is also good, if a little poor exposition-wise, the transition between plausible and implausible is rough.

Oh, by the way,
the Purple Clan is not the Internet - it's the equivalent of the Orange Clan who digitized themselves into AIs.
And you run from harpies for the same reason your apartment goes wacko.

In the end, I recommed Fahrenheit, it's good enough to warrant your attention.

They're practically the
internet.

Also, I like the name Fahrenheit better, makes more sense. Also liked the idea that it's getting colder and colder every scene, eventually to impossible levels, until the climax.

Yeah

Saying the transition between plausible and implausible is rough is an understatement. Mind you right before the "INTERNET", you fight the aztec dude in what is essentially the last fight scene in the matrix. THEN, you go into the old ladies room where she reveals suddenly that she is infact the internet. Its stupid stupid stupid

Not since like Dark Forces 1, and certainly not in third person.

That's like asking if I've never crawled on my knees to the convenient store.
Doesn't mean I suck, just means, you know, I was hoping a game at that time might be past that evolutionary stage of retardation.

Naw bro, you suck.

"I can't adapt to a relatively simple control scheme that's been used in countless games. WHY can't developers make things easier on me? Turning left and right and hitting forward is hard. :("

Have you never actually played a Resident Evil game?

I got really addicted to the idea of the game early on, especially during the demo for some reason, even though it really was just basically slightly interactive storytelling.

I suppose I enjoyed the idea of it most because it'd be easy to mod and tell your own stories through it in a similar manner with a sort of choose your own path way about it, but that idea quickly went out my head.

I enjoyed the storyline, but as others have said, it QUICKLY got really weird and truly kind of umm... dumb?

Yeah, that's what I want, a confusing 2 seconds of rotating my entire body in the right angle and then right clicking and dragging my mouse in order to see whats in front of me. While being under attack.
Also, if I want to open a door, I wiggle my mouse pointer in a small white dot. Just like you do in real life.

Yeah, makes sense. Hope they make a bicycle game so I have to constantly click right and left arrow keys to pedal while holding down my middle mouse button to steer. Way fun.

A game riding a bike like that is not immersive. A game where you are able to move your character in more elaborate ways, kind of like what you described in the first part of your post, are more immersive.

There is a difference between immersive and overly complicated to the point of being retarded. I don't want to have to think about how to chew my food when I eat, just like I don't want to think about how I'll have to move my legs when I walk.

Okay, well I suppose I'm a tad bit confused and must have overlooked what was being discussed then. I thought we were just talking about typical first person or third person movement.

I...I think there is a game like that.

Anyway seriously ZT it's not a difficult control scheme. You're probably just too used to playing with something like WASD. Games like Indigo Prophecy (that is, mystery games/horror/suspense games) generally use the "rotate, move in forward-facing direction" control scheme. It's also popular with adventure games.

The control scheme is really easy once you get a hold of it.. plus, you can always edit it however you want. Since I had a laptop while playing it, I had to change the action keys a bit.

I hated the part where you're hiding in your girlfriend's house and the black guy was there. I kept thinking I was supposed to hide under the bed, because of the hint. I think that was the one place I wasn't supposed to hide.

Interesting game. I played a little pit of it. It annoyed me though because I tried to play it like an adventure game. When I took control of the black cop I found the girlfriend to be annoying so I told her off. This made him suicidally depressed. When I went into work a guy asked me to give him the five bucks I owed him. This caused my girlfriend to move to florida.

Played it, loved it, finished it. I am waiting in anticipation for Heavy Rain on the PS3.

This is the best short explaination of Fahrenheit I've heard.

i played about 20 minutes like a month ago and haven't touched it since. i want to play more but so many better games are in my library now. its more a rainy day type of game
