this act would penalize technology companies and consumer electronics makers for creating any device that could "induce" or encourage users to make unauthorized copies of copyright material such as music, movies or software. Critics have said devices like the iPod could be illegal under the law.

question: do you think a CD burner could become illegal? hmm... what about floppies, dvd burners, peer to peer networks.. where will it end?
I can buy a pencil and a piece of paper, write down how to create a copy of.. hmm.. a new game like doom 3. Would the paper and pencil be deemed illegal? it WAS used to encourage copying of copyrighted material...

Well I'm also wondering, why don't they close site like KAzA, they also bitch about pirated Cd's and DVDS , why don't they stop CD Burners ?

because as soon as they close one a new one will be started by a different group of people. you cant stop it.

god, just some morons trying to pass some stupid law

it'll never get past, if it does, there will be Hell

easier method,

u need a licence to use a cd burner...

think that would help =)

i think they've tried to close kazaa. read this, it's kinda old but it gives you an idea of how kazaa is run.

a licence to have a CD burner? are you nuts? a CD burner wouldn't hurt anyone.. it's why they have licences for guns and dangerous stuff. They do have agreement licences in the CD burning software, i think.. but has that truly stopped anything?

*thinking* oh! i remember, i signed a licence saying i wouldn't burn that metallica CD.. well, darn i guess i can't do it!

*reality* who gives a crap as to whether i signed a licence agreement?

note to metallica: plz do not take this as me saying it's ok to copy your CDs.. not that I ever bought one, allegedly.

I'd pay to see some politically-correct up-his-own-arse tosser come and try take my toys away.

I'd put up one hell of a fight. As a last stand i'd hold my hamster hostage.

I think the law should focus on stopping old grannies being mugged by pikeys, instead of stopping nerds listening to music.

I know whats gonna happen with this.

I'm so glad i don't live in America at times like these.

Mainly beause if this bill is passed it'll cause a chain reaction of unhead of proportions.
If it does get passed America will most probably be tossed back into the stone age technology wise, because the writeing of the bill is so broad that it could in one sweep outlaw among others:

computers no more burners, no more divx, probably no more Internet
mp3 players yup kiss your ipod goodbye
dvd players at the very least the non dvd playing extra's like mp3/svcd/divx etc
tivo's not a big thing in europe (yet) but in america they're apperantly really into it
VCR's no more recording for you

And that's just a small part of the shitstorm that will roam all of america if they pass this thing. If they do, my children will probably only read about the fabled "America's" in their history books (okay so i exagerate somewhat, but this thing is so stupid :P)

It has already been struck down..the law will not be passed...

actually that would be the logical progression...so don't be so quick to make yourself look stupid staddydaddy

anyway the reason it was stuck down is that it would invetiably interfere with the 1st amendment

I'm afraid you're stupid in this case.
Circumventing the swear filter and flaming are both offenses that will earn you a warning, or even a ban.

See, not all laws are bad! :)
