Patrick at Valve has created a thread informing the community that Valve is still investigating the mysterious “Stutter Bug” some are experiencing while playing Half-Life 2. This issue is annoying, it does sometimes render the game completely unplayable and is causing many of its product owners to go over the edge. Well, in the thread above, Valve has a given the community a chance to possibly fix the issue and potentially help Valve defeat the bug. This fix is a BETA solution and is not yet finalized. So, Valve is asking everyone that runs the special command (Command can be found in said thread) to give some feedback, help them maybe tweak their BETA version of this fix to create a final version that will work for most, if not all, of the consumers that are experiencing this unfortunate issue. Again, I cannot stress this enough, if you do use this BETA, please inform Valve of its effectiveness.[br]All the information you need, including the command line and the format of how Valve would like you to respond to them, can be found at the Steampowered.com forums.

Btw, if you don't get the pig...

Porky = Most famous stuttererererererer....

That's just the Steam friends beta. Was it tied to the friends beta on purpose, or did some of the coding VALVe did for the friends beta fix the stutter bug for some of thier internal testers?

o_O If you havent experienced Looney Tunes first hand, You have missed out. They dont make cartoons like that anymore.

Back on topic, GG Valve! Cant wait for this to be resolved.

Coincidentally, the Pig Man episode of Seinfeld is running tonight.

i've had this problem starting from that big patch a long time ago ;( even on low settings no matter what i do the game has lock ups ;( this happens in every game from CS.S the DOD.S and all mods :\ every thing else on my comp is fine so i hope this will help :(

Looks like the time has... co-co-co-co-co-co-co-come again...

Blimey! I thought Valve had burried this one. Clearly they are still very much aware of the problem. I've always experienced this to varying degrees. I upgraded my PC at the beginning of last year for precisely this reason ......... well, it was on the cards but HL2 was the straw that broke the camels back! I still get the problem even now. Usually it occurs whenever a new sound/sample is played for the first time. Even in CS:S - When an nade goes of the first time in a game. Or the first time I fire my weapon - A slight stutter! Good that Valve is still trying to deal with this. It's the thorn in the side of the Source engine & always has been.

............ What are you supposwed to do here then? http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Friends_Beta#Stuttering

JPEG doesn't have alpha channels - And I don't like filling the background in with colors :D

/me cries river

Odd, I experienced that issue when the game first came out, then they came out with a fix after a few weeks or whatever, and I never had the problem again.

I never had the problem until recently, I thought I fixed it by changing PCI latency but I just tried HL2 today and there it was. Every ~10 seconds in trainstation it would stutter

Just tried the patch and it's pretty much completely fixed the issue, no stuttering at all during trainstation. However now I seem to get a longer graphical lag occuring much less often, not sure if this is related.

No. I've not edited the shortcut to run the beta. why?
Because the changes are in the beta. You were running the unpatched code.

And they wonder why Steam auto-updates...;)

I tried this out, and it works. Now I dun dunt hav hav to suffer fru fru m that stupid stut stut ering bug.

SOLVED stutter bug

Hello.
I would like to share with you my success in solving the stuttering bug.
I have been playing HL2 multiplayer for about 3 days without a crash, so I believe the problem is resolved. Prior to that it was crashing with "memory cannot be read" error messages.

Basically I tried may things, but the problem stopped only after I uninstalled DirectX and DirectPlay8 completely and install the newest version of DirectX "redistributable" version.

Please note that I did not install DirectPlay8. It still shows errors if I open the dxdiag under "network" but it does not matter.

I hope this helps.

I get this ALL the time. Infact, its what helps me not play Half Life 2 all day.

If it is fixed, I kiss you all.

Oh, I wasn't aware that its a BUMPED thread, and the Beta thing was a year ago!

Thanks alot, skintwin
