A thoughtless couple in their 20s who left their four-month old daughter at home while they played Internet computer games at a nearby PC café have been booked by police after the child died.

According to Incheon Police Station on Tuesday, a 29-year-old man husband identified by his family name of Yu and his wife put their four-month daughter in the bedroom of their home and went to a neighborhood PC café at around 4:00 p.m. on May 24 to play the online game "World of Warcraft.

Time flew by as the couple lost themselves in the game, and when they returned home at 9:00 p.m., their daughter was lying on her stomach, dead of suffication.

The couple told police, "We were thinking of playing for just an hour or two and returning home like usual, but the game took longer that day."

Police said an investigation turned up that the couple, who wed last year, used to play "World of Warcraft" whenever they had time.

Police said, "It's unfortunate, because the tragedy could have been averted if the couple had just left their daughter with Yu's mother-in-law, who lived upstairs from them... We booked the pair on criminal charges, judging that when you consider the situation, they were responsible for their daughter's death."

Major U.S. online game producer Blizzard, which grew famous with the game "Starcraft", produced the game to which Yu and his wife were addicted, "World of Warcraft." The game allows multiple players to form teams to fight battles and enjoy various adventures.

This happens all the time. ALL THE TIME. Poor baby. This is what MMOs due to people.

/me checks where this happened

Korea?! Aw Jesus Christ when will they learn. Every single day a Korean dies, or is responsible for the death of another because they won't get off of Starcraft/Counter-Strike/Ragnarok Online/insert game here. Why hasn't someone developed some kind of...support group for people at these internet cafes over there? If you've been playing without sleep for two weeks, you need help. If you're about to kill somebody because he sold your 1337 Dragon Sword, you need help. If you've possibly left someone who is too young to care for themself at home alone, you need help.

Koreans are frightening over computer games. They kill each other regularly over online disputes, and one even died because he was online for several days straight on drugs and not eating or drinking.

Suffocation?

This could have been the act of SIDS. One does not know such information that is not provided to one.

Suffocation has telltale and clear signs though doesn't it?

Supakiller : Shit dudes ive not ate in like, 3 weeks.
DeathTou : Wow you should go have a burger or somthing?
Etna has entered the game
Etna : Hey guys whats it mean when you pee blood?
DeathTou : You should go see a doctor about that!
Etna : Im stuck to the chair
DeathTou : What? You went in your chair? DUDE SICK! Supa, you still there?
Supakiller has been cut from the game
DeathTou : Shit I think Supa died.
Etna : Thats anouther one, we are losing guildies way to quickly, oh shit here comes more blood. Afk.

The infant could have moved and gotten some air.

Of course, I may be overestimating the "intelligence" of infants.

:(

It's pretty easy for infants to suffocate if they are on their stomach. Common knowledge. Either they can't expand their lungs enough, due to pressure, or they drown in their own... mouth fluids. Or their mouth is blocked by the floor.

I think Korea is the only country in the world where Internet addiction is a valid excuse for skipping draft.

"Honey, I think our baby is DEAD!"

"...damn, I know I should've played longer and gotten that Crystal of Healing +9."

I see a Blizzard commercial in the making!

....god, that was horrible. Sorry everyone. <3

Oh I almost forgot. Only is Asia...
Hahahaaha.

It should have been in America! I bet they were Americans living in Asia at the time, that's the only explaination!

Hahahah this is sad but funny at the same time. man wife?

What if the parents were somewhere else, it still would've been the same thing. I don't really know how intelligent 4 year-olds are but it was probably an inevitable accident. They could've left the child somewhere safer, though.

LLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRROOOOYYYYYYYY JJJJJEEEEEEEEEENNNNNKKKKKKIIIIIIIINNNNNNSSSSSSS

Heh, only a matter of time till someone died from WoW.

Is it bad that the only time I've laughed out loud today was when I read this thread title?

Oh no wait..I laughed at family guy a bit earlier...

You know why the mentioned Starcraft?
Cuz in Korea, Starcraft hit perfectly with Cyper Cafe's and well.... Starcraft is by far the\one of the biggest gamse in Korea :).

cyber cafes or "PC Rooms" always have Starcraft: Broodwar. Its a must for all PC rooms.

What do you know? We don't regulary die.

:hmph:

Technically you do regulary die, facts of life buddy.

However leaving an infant alone is really stupid. I wanna swear but wont today.

Careless parents, but you can't blame the game for that, the fact that they were playing WoW is irrelevant. They could have been out at a restaurant or at a friend's house, doesn't really matter.

the fact they were playing WoW shouldnt even be mentioned ...if they were at the movies instead I'm pretty sure they wouldnt blame the movie they were watching

But then it wouldn't be as worthy to be posted at hl2.net offtopic. It'd just be your generic run of the mill neglect case.

... :[.. it's horrid that I can even call it that.

true ..but video games are the modern scapegoat for everything wrong in child rearing ...5 hours isnt all that much to be away from an infant ...they could have been at home and the outcome would have been the same ..suffocation and SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) is actually quite common

They didnt really blame the game.. They just said thats what they where doing.

ya but had they been watching "the sound of music" I'd be willing to bet it wouldnt even have been mentioned

Prob would of said "While watching TV" but yes your correct, wouldnt of said what the show was.

A thoughtless couple in their 20s who left their four-month old daughter at home while they played Internet computer games at a nearby PC café have been booked by police after the child died. Because you see, if you play games, you're an ignorant ****head that is ruining his life.

According to Incheon Police Station on Tuesday, a 29-year-old man husband identified by his family name of Yu and his wife put their four-month daughter in the bedroom of their home and went to a neighborhood PC café at around 4:00 p.m. on May 24 to play the online game "World of Warcraft".

This is OBVIOUSLY a blatant lie, as they play games, and people who do that are absolute and complete freaks.

Police said an investigation turned up that the couple, who wed last year, used to play "World of Warcraft" whenever they had time. They should have been hung, but weren't.

Police said, "It's unfortunate, because the tragedy could have been averted if the couple had just left their daughter with Yu's mother-in-law, who lived upstairs from them... We booked the pair on criminal charges, judging that when you consider the situation, they were responsible for their daughter's death." It could also have happened while they were watching television, but that wouldn't be worth noticing, would it?

Major U.S. online game producer Blizzard, which grew famous with the game "Starcraft", produced the game to which Yu and his wife were addicted, "World of Warcraft." The game allows multiple players to form teams to fight battles and enjoy various adventures. We should all ban games and shoot everyone on sight who plays them. SIEG CHRIST!
(because we all know those extreme christians are idiots)

Well, that's what I read.

They didnt blame it on video games, they said people who play games are complete freaks. Big difference.. Then again that news site has christians and gamers are idiots/freaks. So.. that doesnt say much for them, the idiots.

What the hell? This isn't a site run by fundamentalist Christians....
