I posted that without even seeing what graphics chipset you had...

s3 Graphics TwisterK-32MB????

You might want to check and see if it's even directX 7 compatible. If not, don't waste your time.

my video card said it has up to directx 8.0 but i have 9.0 installed becuase i cant find an 8.0 that will run on windows xp pro any ideas on that too??? lol. also can i upgrade the chipset in my laptop ??? so i have a betetr video card??

No, you can't upgrade the chipset on your laptop I'm afraid. Also, there is a difference between what version of Direct X you have installed on your OS and what the direct x capabilities of your graphics chipset are.

Example.

You can have direct X 9.0c installed on windows XP, but that won't make your old Voodoo or TNT card direct X 9 compatible...Newer video cards were designed to work with direct X and support specific features of direct X. If your video card does not support some of these hardware specific features of at least direct x 7, it just won't work.

Also, you can't downgrade directX once you install a newer version and doing so would not do you any good. The problem is with the hardware, not the software.

Are you sure you are using the absolutely newest drivers out there for your laptop?

sigh...... ya they are the newest drivers i was just hopeing to god that i could play hl2 without haveing to get a new comp but it looks like i am Sh#t out of luck till i get my new computer i realy wish i could return pc games if they are not compatable oh well.....thx for the help anyways.

I'm getting this message too. I just got a new ATI Radeon 9250, which the vendor said he has in his comp. and plays HL2 flawlessly. But I get this message. I downloaded the files from ATI and all, and still...I get nothing. I played HL2 with my old inbedded intel graphics card, but a bit sluggish and would lag like a mother! So I got this card, and installed it...but still...I get nothing!
