I just bought a copy of HL2 from Best Buy on Sat. 11-13-2004.
While installing the 4 of 5 cds, I received an Error 1334. It has something to do with File hl2.ico1 not found in Cabinet hl24.cabs, and that the retail package might be bad.
I need to know if there is something I can do before I return this game back.
I searched this Forum to see if there is some info on this subject, but to no avail.
Please, if somone knows anything about it let me know
Thanks.

lol try it again on the 16th 3 days from now
Doesn't seem like an activation error.

Clean the disk, try again. Also, 'explore' the disk to make sure the file's really there.

Try copying the whole CD to your HD and telling it to look there for the 4th CD rather than the drive.

There is little to no chance of it being an activation error!
:o

might have to take back the game thats not supposed to be released yet...

Hi barbariannick,

The disk may be dirty or the disk drive is not reading it correctly.

The most likely answer is the disk is faulty. Return it to the retailer for a new copy.

Here is a list of things to check to make sure the game works on your CPU.

1. Bring it back to the store.
2. Make sure you have the right requirements to play the game.
3. Make sure to clean the disk for dust or anything else.
4. If it still doesn't work ask someone at Steam or Valve for help.
:borg:

Just so you don't feel alone, I have the same problem. Disc 4 out of 5.

Brainhammer.

Thanks

Thanks for your replies. I do appreciate it. First thing Monday I’m taking it back for another copy. I was eager to play it over the weekend. Again thanks.

You couldn't have played it until the 16th anyways. Thanks Vivendi. Anyways, if you have a broadband connection you could just whack the key into Steam, preload from that to complete the install, and ignore the fact the disks are a tad broken.

Just don't put in the key if you're gonna take it back, that would be kinda evil.

Good point ... I'm not sure people will be able to return this game and it then be resold for this reason! Ooh-err

It worked!

Well, late last night or early this morning, I tried to install the game one more time. This time I prompted to add the Counter Strike game that came with this package. It finally completed the Installation. That was probably the glitch, the addition of the Counter Strike game. So, this was mostly for hurry up and wait.

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ON A FORUM, I think the forum community is cool and the people who repond to the threads are awesome.

Thanks

And if that doesn't get him a post as a mod, I don't know what will :P

(ooh, I spend far to much time in this section. 10 most recent threads with me as last poster :O )

I have this same problem with the DVD version I bought but found the file in hl25.cab is there anyway to tell it to get the file there or to put the file into hl24.cab?

I'm not very computer savvy so don't know if that's possible. I bought the game retail so I wouldn't have to download it, and the store I bought it from won't accept a return on it or an exchange.

Okay decided I'd just download it and deal with it but when I try and enter the key it says I have to install it from the DVD before continuing... is there any hope on this or is am I outta luck and out the money for the game?
