Install help

Hi, i am shadowhunter and this is my first post, Please can you help me ?

I purchased Half life 2 nearly 2 years ago, it lagged so much, so i unistalled it, now having learned that there is in a patch which can reduce the lag, i wish to install it again, now the problem is here,

i put in the disk, and no information is found on the disk, and when i go onto my steam account it says install Half life 2,has steam backed up a copy of my game or somthing ?

I will appreciate any help,

Make sure you are on the EXACT same Steam Account as two years ago. A new one won't work. Then, just double-click on "Half-Life 2", and it should start downloading.

now i have another problem i play the game, the new patch to reduce lag is installed, but it is still slow and lagging,
I have tested my comp with steam and everything passed, i have over the min requirements for HL2......but still won't work properly

What patch is that exactly? Where did you download it from? Didn't you use Steam?

The patch is from steam, when i reinstalled HL2 from steam it's put on as well,

Well, what are your specs then? What is running in the background? What drivers are you using? When did you last defrag? Checked for spyware/ malware/ adware /virus's lately?

yes everything is fine, i am not to good with comps so i can't tell you everyting the only other thing on the background is the internet or nothing sometimes, I defraged last week,

Err..

Firstly, I can GUARANTEE you that Internet Explorer is NOT the only thing running in the background. You NEED to know what is running. Heaps of things run after startup for one thing...

Have you installed any "free" toolbars, any "freeware" programs - these are usually RIDDLED with spyware / adware / malware that mess with your PC.

Virus's / malware etc???? IMPORTANT.

SPECS???? IMPORTANT. Eg: CPU, RAM, Graphics card, Direct X version, driver versions etc.

Without this info no-one can do any more than make wild guesses about your problems.

Your specs will help a lot, if you are unsure of how to obtain them, go to -

Start > Run

And type dxdiag, then post your Processor information, your Memory (RAM) and your graphics card from the display tab.

these are your biggest problems.
128mb shared means the integrated video card uses your system memory so realistically you only get to use 128mb memory in the game. the integrated card is crap anyways;it will play hl2,but not well at all.the only thing you can really do is upgrade.

I have heard that many people have problem with looping sounds that crash the game, can that be fixed cos the new patch was supposed to stop that?

Yeah that was a common bug when hl2 was originally released, they did release a few patches which sorted most people, a few unlucky ones still exerpience it though.

Unforunately, you will ALWAYS have all sorts of problems with that system untill the day you upgrade it. Windows apparantly needs about 256 just to run properly, and that leaves nothing for any other programs you want to run. But you have 256 - 128 for your integrated graphics, leaving you with 128 for windows AND programs. I think you should be able to see the problem there...

Also integrated graphics are sh*t anyway.
