installation problem

I have just bought Half-Life 2. I have a Steam account and the only game activated so far is The Ship. When I try to install Half Life I get a message saying another version of this product is already installed and should be deleted. I don't know what it's referring to. Any help would be appreciated

You don't happen to have WON Half-Life still installed, do you?

No.I understood number 2 is standalone. I don't have the first one.

In the Steamapps folder (it's in your Steam Folder) there should be a number of .GCF files. Which ones? And any that are named with "Half-Life 2" and "Source" I'll also need the size of.


EDIT: Actually, screw this, just try validating : steam://validate/220

I clicked the validate link and the steam thing is now downloading Half Life 2. If it all works - thanks. If not I'll get back to you.
