Hello, I just bought this game today and I've tried installing it 6 times. Each time the same thing happens:
Installation proceeds as would be expected, prompting for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd disks. After this I am prompted to re-insert the 1st CD. The last message that's displayed is "Publishing Program Information" at which point the game (apparantly) uninstalls itself behind the scenes. No more messages are displayed - it just drops to the desktop. There are no icons, menu items, or files on my machine when it finishes.
I was suspecting some sort of copy protection scheme on the CDs, but I have never had this happen before. I've submitted a question on Activision's site, but I'm guessing I'll have to wait until Monday or Tuesday and will receive helpful suggestions like "defrag your hard drive" so I thought I'd give this a shot. My system specs are:
Abit KV8-Max3 based system
AMD 64 3200+
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB)
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
120GB SATA HD connected to onboard RAID controller (not in RAID configuration though)
Pioneer DVR-104
Liteon CD-RW 12101B
Windows XP Pro, SP2
No background programs are running and I'm running all the latest drivers (updated BIOS, VIA, and video today). Any ideas what might be causing this or more importantly what can be done to get around this? Thanks.
