Installing a Codec.........wtf

Ok , this is getting on my friggin nerves. How do I install a codec for WMP???? Apparently microsoft is totally incompetent when it comes to writing tutorials , I cannot even explain how pissed off I am at this point, thnx for any help.

what codec? Usually you just need one of those codec packs, in which case its just to doubleclick and restart.

nah its some crazy xvid , maybe I downloaded the Xvid source code and not the acutal codec. Anyway thanks so far , im going to go to bed and check back tommorow when im coherent and not as disgruntled

yeah, x-vid is one of those bastards who do that. I don't enjoy compilation cept of my own code. lemme find an exe link for ya

Download the little baby http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ it scans the file you want 2 play and tells you what codec you need to play the file and if you have it on your system.
dont bother getting those codec packs thier more trouble than thier worth.
I do a lot this type of thing converting films too dvd-r, and iv found the best way is just 2 scan the file with gspot too find out what codec you need then do a search for it google.
