Before installing a mod you should remember to close Steam just as a precaution.
Most mods uses installers so it's pretty easy to install mods.
The mods usually come in installers, and sometimes .zip files.
1. Installing third party mods
To install a mod using an installer, make sure that you have a half-life folder (/Steam/SteamApps/[email protected]/half-life),
if you don't have one go to the games list, start half-life, press the new game button,
select training and then after it has finished loading exit half-life and then Steam,
start the install (most installers install into the Steam folder automatically without having to browse to the Steam folder,
but if it doesn't you have to browse into your /Steam/SteamApps/[email protected] and select the half-life folder).
The rest of the install is usually just the installer copying the files into your half-life folder and then pressing the 'Finish' button.
If the mod comes in a .zip file you need to open it using any program that can handle .zip files (WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip, etc.),
open the .zip file, when you have opened it there should only be a single folder showing, select that one, press the extract button, browse to your half-life folder and extract it into that folder.
2. Uninstalling third party mods
To uninstall third party mods simply browse to your Steam/SteamApps/[email protected]/half-life folder and delete the directory that contains the mod.
The entry in the games list is automatically removed.
