I had this problem with Mass Effect, because I didn't read the fine print, so I returned it.... but now I am having this problem with Bioshock.

However, when I bought it, I did know about the internet install thinger. My new computer will not connect to the internet although it is connected to my wireless router for a reason I have been trying to figure out with the company for nearly two months.

I read somewhere that you only need an online verification with Bioshock the first time you install it. So I installed it on my old shitty computer, verified it, uninstalled it, and reinstalled it on my new system, only to learn that this was not true. I even took my rig down to my old computer and tried to connect it to our DSL and it did not work.... *sighhhhh*

So I was wondering, is there a way I can bypass this? I'd like to play my Bioshock.

Get a crack.
Wait a minute. I though we, the members of HL2.net, were supposed to be against piracy here? :dozey:

Bioshock is another Steam game yes? (I only played the 360 version) Are you trying to verify cache files so you can supposedly play the game on the other, newer rig?

It's not piracy because I bought the game. Think of it as adding a mod to a game you already bought.

Anyways, finding a crack is tough, using it right is even tougher.

All I want to do is get it running on my new rig that doesn't have the internet.

Ah, gotcha.

The trouble with cracks though is that they usually introduce a whole slew of new problems on top of the ones that the PC game already has. Finding a good one would be tough.

I wish I could help ZT. I honestly don't know where to find any for Bioshock, as I've never looked myself. :(

It IS legal if you own the game, which I believe ZT when he says he owns it.. This site even has a disclaimer somewhere that says you must own the game before you use a crack.
Why do so many people here know about pirate stuff when so many times in past threads pirates were so hated upon? Anyways, I'd read the fine print very carefully. Like ZT said, it's extremely easy to install this stuff the wrong way.

You guys are noobs, wow. It's ridiculously easy to find cracks.. I use them for every game I have. I only use a disc for Diablo 2, as I play it online (although cracks exist for online games too), other then that I use no CD's for my games. It's stupid that devs make you, they get all scratched and shit, then you need to buy more - that's stupid.

Not really. Especially not for games released several months ago.

Check your pms ZT.

I think he means because usually it takes about a week or so for crackers to crack new games, then each new patch is about another 4 days a piece.

I'm still living in the past then. In a world where all we used to do was punch in CD keys and actually have CDs. I only ever used Steam for HL games. That's it.

I downloaded the 1.1 crack for Bioshock (1.0 was 12 Mb, this one is smaller), and this is the simplest of cracks when it comes to installation. Just move the .exe over your old one and overwrite it. Simple as that. Although just in case you may want to keep your old .exe file in case they come out with a new patch or something, I doubt they will, so you don't have to keep your old one, but whatever..

EDIT: For cracks you have to install the game as usual, but when you run the game it'll usually stop and say 'Insert your CD', when you put in a crack, you can jsut run it. You still have to install the game/patches as normal, when that's done you put in the crack, then not have to put in the CD..

For the record, I'm talking about ONLY GAMES YOU OWN.

The 1.12 patch made it so that you can play without the disc, you just have to move some files off of the CD onto your hard drive. ;)

Thats why we need Steam

Steam often fails for me, so I rarely use it nowadays..

I'd love Steam if not for the fact that many infrastructure providers are a bunch of stingy assholes and just give us all access to DSL/cable broadband out here in the wilderness.
Satellite broadband is out of the question too. Way too expensive, and the download/upload speeds aren't even that terrific anyways.

Our government(s) should devise a policy to force them to provide broadband and ban dial-up once and for all, regardless of how much profit they lose/gain. But mostly lose.

That, or I just need to move to a metropolitan area. :p

I would not be so sure. This is a grey zone in law regulations and things may vary from country to country. If you buy a game you are not entitled to do whatever you want with that game.
But don't get me wrong: I hate draconian DRMs and ridiculous protection schemes.

I don't know how many games use it, but secuROM sucks balls too. FEAR would perform much better without it. If anyone knows a crack to remove the POS, let me know.

Well I finally got my internet to work and Installed Bioshock.... but when I click to start a new game it goes into the loading menu but does nothing... Mind you I didn't mess around with it or anything.

I know my computer is fast enough to run it.... should I just return it for a new one?

What exactly happens? You click on "new game" and it takes you to a loading screen? I dont think it should actually take you to another menu. How long did you let it sit at the loading screen? Do you have to most up-to-date drivers for your video card?

Also, post your computer specifications anyways.

Finally got it to work :D

But I had to disable my Wacom Tablet to do so... :|

I'm loving this game so far.

How the hell did you figure that out? That makes no sense haha

Oh, I dunno. I was having trouble with the installation feature for a 5-year-old game (LOTR:ROTK) on my old (XP) PC, which it was designed for... finally figured out that it was because some other program ENTIRELY was running 4 applications, each taking up 25% processing power, the minute the game started to try and copy files. I have no idea why. PCs are bizarre.

Steam is a breeze to use, when I'm not capped as I am now. When I am, I can play totally fine, but I quake in fear of updates.

Yeah, I know right? I had to do some extensive research on Google until I found someone who made a thread with the exact same problem as me in a Bioshock forum. He and several others who had the problem all had Wacoms, one of the poster gave instruction on how to "fix" it.

Did you get the crack for the 1.1 update Zombieturtle? If you need I still have it.

Yes, I do own the game, bought on the day of release, I just prefer not having to actually use any of my activations to play, not that it matters now they've changed their system, but when I used this crack it did.

I don't think I have the crack unless it downloads it with the patch or something... I am terrible at installing cracks though.

I generally crack all my games with nocd/noverification. This site usually does well

www.email.cracks.am

Just don't do it around the parents, porn everywhere.

gamecopyworld still has some nsfw ads. Although Adblock can probably get rid of them.

Gameburnworld.com is the best, it has almost every PC game, and not really any NSFW ads, no nudity ones, anyways.

then use megagames.com

No, **** no.
Everything there has a virus in it.

Plus, the site actually tried installing a god damn trojan a few times... luckily AVG and Firefox block that shit.

Megagames is good for all my TOTALLY LEGAL CRACKS.

Never got Trojan'd.
