whats the crack? I dont understand how it worked before and not now

When you say you reinstalled Windows XP do you mean that you went from Service Pack 2 back to Service Pack 1?

The error message is indicating that the CD has become damaged, dusty or scratched in some kind of way and cannot be read. Incidentally if you have another CD drive on the computer (maybe a writer) try installing it from that.

Do other games, software or music have a similar problem? If so, go into Control Panel > System Tools > Hardware > Device Manager and remove the Secondary IDE Channel (under IDE controllers) and if it doesn't do it automatically then remove your CD drives too. They'll reinstall when Windows XP boots up.

Let us know how you get on...

err, the same Version that i got when i got my PC... i had 2 much crap on my PC so i reinstalled windows XP, I havent had any other version of Windows on this PC

lapaii, i just cleaned the CD and it installed okay:D but this time i also installed that counter strike game aswell, the other times i didnt i dont know if that has anything to do with what was wrong, and now teh game works fine at the mo, nice and smooth, cheers mate:D

Apparently the early versions of the CD had the error with CS not being installed.

But good to know you got it all worked out.
