Installed HL2 Game of the Year Edition on XP MCE with an Administrator account as I do with all games. Other games always put icons on the other users desktops so they could access the games. But with HL2 GotYE it did not.

How do I transfer the files needed for them to play?

With anything I do, they always end up receiving error..."Unable to write to Steam Folder, please move Steam to a writeable location

if your installing with the disk ( this is dumb ) you can choose where you want steam installed but you cant choose where you want HL2 installed... just uninstall steam, re-insatall it to what its default location ( usually C://Program files/valve/steam or C://Program files/steam ) then continue on to the HL2 install.

the Steam Folder is located at C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam

Even when a multiple user inserts HL2 Disc1, the auto run window comes up showing "Play HalfLife2" and they click the link it gives the same error

alright... some more info would be great... more on what exatly your doing and system&hardware specs usually help too.

I'm trying to let other users play the game on their XP user accounts. The installation didn't install anything in their accounts. The only one that can play is the administrator.

Just wondering if there was an easy way to do this without having to uninstall everything.

Intel P4 640 HT 3.20
XP MCE
1.5G RAM
250G HDD
GeForce 7600GS

oh... i see ok... well you'll have to let them use your steam user ID and password... you also have to set the security (with windows, not in steam ) to let evey one use it. Application are usally universal and evey other user on your system can use that app.
