installing hl2 backup files

so i downloaded HL2 through steam, success, it works. backed up the game with the ah-so-wonderful backup game option, one file for dvd. i had to reinstall steam cause it was all crap, and so i wanted to use my HL2 backup instead of downloading again. HL2 backup exe file runs, cool. then, just before success, it tells me the following:

please insert the volume containing the file:
steambackup half-life2 disk.dat

now if i may ask why are other files are needed?? i made steam make only one executable. what can i do (i won't re-download) ??
please help me.

Hey man, i had the exact same problem, in the end i just bit the bullet and re-downloaded the updates (I had the retail edition)
