I read somewhere that you only get two installs before Steam essentially nullifies your discs. True? I'm considering installing it on my laptop, but I'm hesitating in case I need a re-install on my desktop (preferred for gaming). Anyway, what's the deal on this?

steam is free to use, besides you can download it. steam is a piece of software that allows you to use steam bought or valve games and never needing a cd to install the game ever again. you are able to download every game you own on steam.

You can install as many times as you like. You can't play them on more than one computer at once, as you need Steam to play them, but you can only log into Steam once. See?

More than one install is not a problem. Feel free to do it.

If I was to set both my steams in offline mode, I can play simultaneously right?

Yes. But you can't play online. And you don't get updates. But yeah, you could sell an account like that several times...

Technically.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to get the wife to play Portal, but she has to have her butt on the couch to play anything.
