Hello , im reinstalling the OS on my computer in a couple days and i wanna know how to install the operating system so i get good proformance , things like tweaks , what to enable / disable,security,and gaming proformance and im also installing windows XP on a SATA drive , i have just 1 SATA Drive , but i dont know how to install to a SATA drive.
System is the following:
P4 2.8C (non overclocked)
INTEL D875PBZLK
1 gig dual channle optimized OCZ ram PC3200
Radeon 9800 PRO A-I-W
maxtor 120GB SATA HDD w/ 8mb cache
WD 80gig 8mb cache ATA100
Audigy 2 OEM
ANTEC SX1040 case with 400w antec Power supply
black Liteon 16X DVD/48x24x48CDRW combo drive
generic black floppy
5$ keyboard
4$ ball mouse
40$ speakers
4 case fans
1)partiton SATA drive C:/ 10gb , D:/ 110GB
2)install windows XP pro to C:/ - use f6 to install sata drivers
3)when windows loads , set UDMA in device manager
4)uncheck reboot on error
5)Set msn messanger not to boot on loading windows
6)format D:/ from disk management
7)copy all my programs / drivers / updates to D:/
8)install SP1
9)disable remote assistance options
10)uncheck automatic updates
11)Install chipset drivers only -> REBOOT
12)install USB 2.0 drivers from device manager -> REBOOT
13)install direct X9.0b -> Reboot
14)install lan drivers / test internet connection
15)install all NON driver windows updates
16)patch Windows Messanger
17)install all NON Video/Sound/TV tuner drivers
18)install video drivers ONLY
19)install TV-Capture-WDM Codecs , DONT REBOOT,install ATI driver,REBOOT,install ati control panel,DONT REBOOT,go to services and make sure ATI smart service is set to run automaticly,REBOOT,reboot a second time to engauge smartgart utility
20.install sound drivers
21.install norton and run WinDoctor and repair errors
22.get Sun Java to help prevent random reboots/BSOD's
23.tweak very lightly (disable indexing,messanger,ect)
24.benchmark & compare with similar systems
25.image drive if everything is stable and working.
would you do anything differently? the reason im doing this is because i hear ATI and creative drivers are still pretty bad , so i wanna avoid conflicts and have a stable computer.
