Excluding the Bios loading and POST, do you think in the next version of windows there will be "Instant On" functionality

I've heard some rumours and unconfirmed talk that longhorn will have instant on, meaning you dont have to wait through the windows loading process

Anyone know if this is confirmed, it would be great to just turn on the computer and have windows there in under a couple of seconds, my boot time is 12 seconds, seems great compared to back when i ran on windows 98 it took a minute or two

My 1992 Acorn booted in 5 seconds or less. Talk about progress.

Unless of course by instant-on, they mean like waking up from Sleep like my mac does now, then, erm... never mind.

Depends. My PowerBook takes longer than I'd like, which is why I never turn it off. Close the lid and it's asleep, open it and it's on. The thing is, when my mac boots it might seem to take a long time but when the desktop is up I can actually start using the computer. My windows one gets to the desktop quicker but it spends a few more seconds grinding away before I can do anything with it.
