Intel to delay launch of three 45nm quad-core CPUs

Can't blame them, whats the point? Theres no competition from AMD.

Why would Intel want competition from AMD, especially for a release of a new CPU?

Maybe they want to shut them out? You know, hit them when they're down. Intel knows that it's Penryns are superior to the Phenoms from the preliminary releases. By releasing at the same time as AMD, consumers will likely choose the better of either company. It would also mean that AMD wouldn't be able to adjust the prices of it's chips based on Intel's. Intel doesn't need a head start nearly as much as AMD does. This is the way I see it at least.

Also means that Intel will already be on their way to creating a new, better CPU by the time they release, so the gap between their 2 new products will be short (basically finishing off AMD)

I think I can wait that until March for my next PC build. I wish atleast the 9450 would still be set for January. Ahh well, gives me more time to save and tweak my list.

Its not that they want it, but that its not there. Why not just keep selling their current stock, milking it for what its worth, then when AMD show signs of activity, they can release their new stuff.

That's why I'm annoyed, I had my upgrade plan all set out but this just throws every thing down the proverbial shitter.

*Asus thinks about throwing in the egg counting saying
But a low priced QX9650-like CPU... would be awesome.

I get the feeling. I've gone through so many revisions of what my new PC is going to be made up of... in reality the average person has to literally settle down for what they're buying.

I'm not surprised at all that they delayed it. The current quad core Intel chips are so far beyond AMD's current offerings that they don't need to make their current chips drop in price.

Also, not all the manufacturers of motherboards have chipsets which support the .45nm process. I wasn't expecting the .45nm chips until the full range of nVidia 780i based motherboards were on the market since the current 680i boards like mine wont support these new processors. :(
