Now that is a nice change!
Coming out in 6months. (Sept/Oct?)
Things are getting interesting. Will have to see what new stuff AMD has instore after their change to the new socket and DDR2 800 (june/july?) But it looks like they will have some strong competition now. ;)

Keep in mind those are Intel run benchmarks (they picked the configuration, set it up and let Anand run the numbers) but they look quite promising even with an OCed AMD chip (2.6->2.8Ghz).

I have been waiting for results like this for a very long time. Look at the difference between Intel's Extreme editon at 3.73 GHz and their new processor at 2.66 GHz, and the 2.66 GHz processor is faster...amazing. Also the difference with the AMD chip is great. Now I know what to buy when I upgrade my PC.

EDIT: What does IDF stand for? And nevermind, they are dual core.

Wow, and I was thinking of switching to AMD... maybe I'll stick Intel for a bit longer, or at least wait til AMD comes out with their 65nm processors

as long as amd is cheaper I will always buy from them

id wait until amd new guys come out before saying yes or no,
that and why did intel decide to name it conroe(row), are they finnaly admitting something :P

The intel naming convention makes sense if you know what you're looking for.

You guys haven't seen half of it yet. Core (Conroe) is just an "enabler" for the rest of the system. It's gonna change the game.

I'm glad to hear this. Will be nice to have the choice again or either intel or amd. I have to say i'm not surprised as intel had to have something up their sleeve to get themselves back in the game. I would imagine they were biding their time until they had perfected the new chips before they released them. More good times ahead for pc enthusiasts.

Alot of this new stuff that will be coming out is because of Apple really. Intel and Apple engineers now have access to each other to share ideas. Flash on the motherboard acting as a superbuffer for your hard disks was bourne of those meetings. There's lots of other cool stuff on the way.

Thats just Apples counter to Hybrid HD's. Hybrid HD's have a gig - gigs of flash memory put in them and Vista is to take(Mac could of probably done the same thing here to) advantage of this. Mirrosoft is using this for techniques to install games much faster, loading games much faster, switching between tasks faster(It could put the interface on the flash memory, and unload it completely when your in a game. When you alt tab, it can easily bring it back into memory at lightning speeds.)

Microsoft will be doing a MASSIVE marketing campaign for these apparantly before Vista is released.

I'm pretty sure Intel got this on their own and showed Apple ahead of time what they had. That's would by why apple switched from IBM. Apple doesn't actually make any that stuff since they just buy IBM, Motorola cpus etc.

Price/performance ratio is the important thing.. if amd cpus perform roughly the same or better than intel cpus for the same price i will still buy amd cpus.
