So I was at a buddy's place today and his son had a cheapy spring airsoft gun laying around. I really enjoyed playing around with it and now I'd like to look into getting my own. So I need some recommendations.

This is a very casual interest, I don't really ever intend to do "battles" or tournies or anything with it. Just something to shoot outside or around the house at foam targets.

However, I don't think I'm interested in cheap-o Wal-Mart guns either. I'd like to get a decent quality replica of a H&K USP, preferably. Electric or spring powered is fine; I don't want to invest in CO2 to power the thing.
And I'd be looking to spend around $50, maybe $80 max (for a "really nice" one). And I guess most electric/spring powered pistols are around the 260fps - 300fps range, so I dont think I'd want a dinky 200 or anything.

Thanks for any info/recommendations guys!

Good luck finding an electric pistol that good.

Stupid choice to not go with gas, especially if it's just a casual interest, because you won't be spending much money on gas and it's way more fun.

Though that price range for a spring pistol should land you a good one.

I don't know anything about what airsoft pistol brands to get, so I can't help you further.

Well, its not really a "stupid" choice, more of a "lazy" choice, because I don't feel like going to wherever I would need to go to in order to refill CO2 tanks. :p

Anyway, thanks for the input Veggie. :)

Good website, I bought from there myself. They have a wide selection there, most of it is probably good stuff.

I don't know much about pistols so...

Edit: looking at pistols, some don't have FPS specifications. I'd suggest googling the name of the one's you're interested in.

Airsoft gas handguns don't run off of C02, so there would never be a need to go "refill" the tanks, like you would have to with a paintball gun. You simply buy disposable cans of gas that you refill the magazines with to fire. The cans are pretty cheap, and last a while. If you have a few on hand, you're good to go for a long time.

That said, you'll definately have a lot more fun with a gas gun :E They're loud, the slide cycles with each shot (with some minimal kick), and they're much more powerful/higher quality. My personal suggestion would be a KSC Glock 19, probably the best airsoft handgun I've ever used, and very affordable.

Thats a good site too. Its got pretty much every gun you could want, and at every price range.

I had a Tangfolio Witness 1911 pistol, and it was great. But that only cost like 25 bucks when I got it, so I can only image what a $80 springer would be like.

I would recommend a gas one too though. They are a lot better, and the ones with blow back are the sex. Shorty has a KJW M9 Blow back on sale for $70, which is saving $30. 320fps, 120ft range. I'd get it if i had the monies.

Sports Authority has some good stuff...I worked a summer camp last summer and a couple of us picked up a couple small airsoft pistols we'd occasionally take pot shots at the kids acting up...
