interesting report on Pop Culture and Aeon Flux

Trevor: The dream to awaken our world

Aeon: You’re out of control

Trevor: I take control. Whose side are you on?

Aeon: I take no side

Trevor: You’re skating the edge

Aeon: I am the edge

Trevor: What you truly want, only I can give.

That's all I read and now I won't be seeing the movie.

Ohh, what am I saying? Charlize Theron is hott

Even Charlize Theron won't make me see Aeon Flux. It looks like shit.

EDIT: And yes, female empowerment FTW.

^^^
I'm all for it, and let the media push it as far as they can. Hell, I'm the one in my little group who is obsessed with Buffy, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Veronica Mars... Those are all shows with strong themes of female empowerment.

It sounds kinda like a weird poem. o_O

It's a sad fact that female empowerment comes with the stipulation that the female being empowered must also be hot.

One of the only exceptions to this rule in main stream culture I can think of right now is in the Alien franchise. The Ripley character is a strong female but that isn't completely underminded by her sexuality, as Ridley put it.

It's like you can have a strong male character in a movie, but if you have a female character they have to be represented in some way by their sexuality? That makes no sense to me.

Funny, that. Wasn't Alien one of the original 'female empowerment' things in mainstream movie culture? Fighting aliens with penis-shaped heads! So's predator in fact. They all get picked off by an alien with a head that looks like a vagina.

Har har:laugh:
sigged.

Charlize Theron is about as hot as a broomstick with blond hair

"The 'jiggle' phenomenon". Nice. I wonder if the author of Aeon Flux was making a parallel between North/South Korea and Bregna/Monica?

hehe, I think that was just H.R. Geiger being a bit twisted, I don't think it's a euphamism in the actual movie though. It might be, you'd have to ask Ridley or some of the script writers.

I do know that the chest burster scene was a euphamism for men's fear of child birth.

She’s the wrong person for this role. She isn't that kind of hot and is just wrong for the part. That said, the little outfit she's wearing is hideous.

More like a shitty poem with packed with cheap cliches and oh-so-cool-and -witty extremely unrealistic dialogue that not even wierdos have in real life.

This is especially so when one considers the nature of the medium as a hegemonic instrument that frequently co-opts resistant points of view in order to benefit the ruling corporate class.
Sorry, but this made me laugh. Orwell would have had a fit upon reading this.

I saw it and thought it was a really good movie :/
