Internet, not LAN

Whenever I try to create a HL2DM server (non-dedicated) it always appears under the LAN tab, when I wish for it to be under Internet.

I've tried adding sv_lan "0" in the config file found at C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(myname)\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\cfg but it doesn't seem to work.

Anybody have any suggestions? Greatly appreciated.

I think an online server HAS to be dedicated....

but don't quote me on that.

Ok well in light of that, which if true I find insane, has anyone (and I know you're out there!!) ever successfully created a non-dedicated HL2DM server?

You can create a non-dedicated internet server, it's just that people can't see it on the server list. I created a server on CS and it didn't show up, but people I knew were able join through my IP.

It sucks.

I have both created a non-dedicated server and had someone join from serverlist, and joined from serverlist a non-dedicated server someone else had created. It works. I'm even behind an NAT, and it still worked.

Although maybe not the correct/easy way, the way I've solved this is to bring up the console and exec the config.cfg file (or I assume any other file you create with server specs) and then typing in your map (map dm_lockdown)

This puts my server in the Internet list, don't know if anyone else can actually see it yet though.

Anyway, thanks for your help

It's very random for me. Sometimes when i'm testing my maps people randomly join and i'm like WTF?! Other times, when i'm waiting for people to join to test I find that it's running as LAN, I usually bring up console and type

sv_lan 0
deathmatch 1
map xxxxxxxxxx

Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. Gets pretty frustrating after a while though..

I also included sv_password xxxxxxx in the config.cfg file. That might help keeping them out.

Its because you dont have a cable router. They have no way to hook up to the server on your comp. Ive tried the long and sooo frustrating process of making a server.
