Okay, so my ISP is finally going to open up ports for me, but they're asking which ones. :rolling:
I really don't know all that much about the ports that games chat programs like IIRC and xFire.

Is there a specific window that I could ask for that will cover all of them? If not, what I want for sure is Steam/games, WC3, StarCraft, UT2004, Quake3/ET, GW, BF2, xFire, Serious Sam 1/2, NOLF2, and some access ports for programs like netmeeting so it will look somewhat less conspicuous. ;)

Thanks.

your ISP is asking you wich ports u want open??????????
why are they doing that the isp should know what to leave open and to leave close

Well, until now they were the only option for highspeed internet, and they wanted an extra $20 a month for access to game ports and such.

We were going to switch ISPs to Qwest but they offered to match Qwest so my dad*really, extremely bitter atm* decided to keep them. So they've offered to open ports because Qwest has them open, but they asked which ones I wanted.

Yeah, I'm really pissed that my dad didn't just dump them, I don't like them, greedy capitalist pigs, but I don't have much say in the matter. :|

Okay, so I got a list of ports for most of the games that I have/want to get eventually, but they asked me if they're incoming or outbound. :?

I don't know much about this, so would it be safe to go with both?

Just tell them to leave the dangerous ones closed and leave the rest alone.

It would suck every time you wanted to play a game if you had to figure out the port and call them.

Just tell them to open up ports 1-9999999. Problem solved

lol what a noobie isp are they like brand new and dont even know what there doing?

An ISP with ports closed? Thats like sky TV subscription with some of the channels missing.

Tell them you require every port to be open, and that you will run your own firewall

I wonder what my Dad told his ISP, I'm about to get a cable router with modem, I just hope he they didn't mention anything bout ports closed, otherwise I'm going to have to go to them

Hardly, ur ISP will always have ports open, duno why his don't.

My ISP blocks incoming packets to port 80, so I can't host files on my computer over the internet.

I just scanned past this title while carusing the boards and I initially read it as "Internet porn help".
