Spoiler is obvious from the title, but for those of you with a reading comprehension level akin to that of an elementary schooler:

His name is Sazh Kalzroy.

Wait, why do we care about new characters in an unreleased game?

The same reason some people care about characters in Diablo 3 being revealed.

Well I don't, but that makes more sense since the characters are known classes (if that's what you mean). This is just a guy with an afro.

Wow. One of the weirder designs ever in a JRPG. Is that Ludicrous? And what is with the little chick?? Maybe it is not that different from Barret from FFVII...

Man, do they feel they have to have a black dude in there to "cool" things up a bit for the Western audiences? I can't wait to hear what the English voice actor makes him sound like. My money is on totally stereotypical and cliche. Thoughts?

Affinity for Southern Fried Chocobo maybe? Oh, Square...

I hope he raps over the credits.

Actually, western influences are well adored in Eastern culture, just as Eastern culture is respected in the West. Cowboy Bebop has huge Western influences, so do a lot of Japanese anime.

Yeah, no kidding, but I just hate when these sorts of stereotypes are perpetuated in games, movies, and every other form of media--visual, interactive, or otherwise. So yeah, needless to say, this character is ridiculous imho. I don't remember FFXII having anyone like this and it just so happens that it is my favorite FF title. Coincidence? Maybe....

Balthier is a hard act to follow.

Oh man FFXII was incredible. I'm now strangling myself in shame for not completing it. I was trying to get 100%, but walked away at some point and never came back. Time to bring out out the ol' PS2.

Negroes, in MY Final Fantasy?!

I find it hard to growl at a stereotypical Black character considering that FF has gone with more Blackanese characters before now. Also, with the Cloud/Tifa picture, are they suggesting that this guy is the main love interest in the game, as opposed to 'AAHHH HERE IT GOES!' comic relief? Go on Square Enix. Surprise me.

I...I....
I don't get it.

Not like it should matter, by the time I'll get a next gen console, this game will be in the $5 bin.

Don Cheadle confirmed for XIII.

Also when I saw the title I thought this was going to be a thread about Vanille.

Reminds me of the black guy from Bushido Blade 2. In the midst of all these sword- and spear-waving samurai/ninja archetypes, there was this camp, skinny black guy in a disco suit, sporting a great big 'fro. His first appearance in the story mode even had him waving fruitily and chirruping 'Hiii...!' in english. Actually he may not have been black, just Blackanesified a la Bo-bobo, but the graphics made it hard to tell.

More black-ppl-research needed, you damn slitty-eyed fish-guzzlers.

The FF7 picture is only there because the demo of FF13 is coming packaged with 'FF7ACC' - which sounds like the Blu-Ray version of Advent Children. The pic is from this.

Sads Cutsroy - lol who cares what kind of english spelling they've tried to give it, that is one screwed up name - is your token wacky blackie, don't get your hopes up. His 'fro even doubles as a nest for his pet chocobo :|

What you were hoping for a serious character? Which he very well could be as we just know he's a nice guy. My hopes are up because of this character. Nuts to you. More research needed on black characters? How about white characters that aren't whiney bitches?

Geez, this won't even be releasing outside of Japan in fiscal '09. Have fun waiting to play with this awesome new character. :O

Seriously, how about a character that is not transgendered or emo hair-cutted? Too much to ask it would seem. This is another reason FFXII will end up being better than this.*

*probably :p

This is fair enough actually. Even if Barrett was a walking Mr T stereotype, he was a grey-moraled Eco-Terrorist and loving father to a girl who isn't even his own biological daughter. In fact, for most of the first disc, Barrett forms the emotional core of the story and is the one who challenges Cloud's completely detached attitude. He fades out once the game becomes more about Cloud's wrist-slitting tendencies and Tifa related erectile dysfunction, and he comes across as a token side character in the painful Advent Children, but he doesn't deserve to be lumped into the Token Blacks of video-gaming.

Oh, and how exactly are Final Fantasy characters playable?

Why do people still care about these shitty games?

I was commenting on the hope that Suds Katsroy would turn out to be 'serious' enough to qualify as a love interest.

Looks like the dad from the TV show 'Smart Guy'

Saved me from writing "character that can be placed within the party and commanded to perform certain actions based upon input from the player." :afro:

Wait...Cloud Strife is in this game? What?
That's a shot from Advent Children (the FF7 movie), which is getting a re-release that no one will care about.

(Yeah, keep telling yourself that, 'Hat.)

Dang straight!

This is what black people look like:

Gotta agree with this. The character roster was looking pretty dire up until this guy, IMO. I like the idea of a female protagonist, but the other two look so ****ing generic, which doesn't give me a lot of hope for a series that's traditionally character based (or tries to be).

Then again, looks aren't everything. So long as the characters are less one-dimensional than FFXII...

Hoping for deep characterization in a Final Fantasy game?

I never realized how funny you were until today, Hat.

Bro. :(

Okay, not deep, but... well put it this way. At least people complain about the characters in 7/8/10 etc. When have you ever heard someone comment on a character in 12 besides "Vaan looks like an effeminite cheese grater" or possibly Balthier's accent?

Balthier worked as a one-dimensional character though. You know, and I know, that "airship pirate" is the best and only characterization one needs.

Ignoring the fact that he was only really an "airship pirate" for the first hour or so of the game, after which he was demoted to "generic along-for-the-ride hero with cool accent?" Sure.

Hey.

Shut up.
