My iPod recently broke, and i'm wanting to buy something a little more flexible than the ipod, but that still has the huge user base (for mods and hacks) that the ipod has.

So, my idea is to spend around 120 dollars on a broken ipod video on ebay, an 80-120 gig 2.5" drive on newegg, and a small homemade casing for the whole deal, then using some elbow grease, my knowledge of electronics, and a few online tuts to put them all together to make a 120 gig ipod.

Thoughts? Yes No? Contraindictions? Not possible with an ipod video? Discuss?

well if he's planning on making this beast I don't think he's worried about battery life.....maybe its something just for car/home use etc.

I'd most likely end up leaving it in my backpack and just running a cable to the straps.

So, it IS possible to do it with an iPod video? I'm assuming yes, considering that all this is is basically switching that tiny little bastage of an IDE cable wired to the ipods mobo to a full blown IDE.

A broken ipod video costs $120?? I think thats my only argument against this plan.

Don't bother?

That's my answer to most things though :P
