Yes you could, then you just use the restore, and reload your songs, not that much of a hassle...

Also, if you grab iPodWizard you can do a 'fake update' (use the updaters update function even if you have the newest firmware), so your firmware is recovered but your files and music remain.

It's nearly impossible to brick an iPod
