Grrr...
I have $250...
And really want to buy an ipod mini...
Actually thinking of asking my parents if the can order me one tommorow(Thursday)...

But once again I enter a messege board I usually go to and it talks about how an ipod is not a good thing to buy...

From what I hear from personal experience, half of my high school, mostly I hear is positive opinions, unless if one may not own one...

So should I go on with what I am more familiar about, ipod mini, or something from Rio, iriver, and creative? I heard of the dell DJ one, but the name "Dell" does a bad job appealing to me...

Sorry if this was written in a bit confusing manner...

dells aren't that bad (cept for gaming :D). I wouldn't go witht he iRiver, it looks really bad (or, it did). My brother has an iPod and my mum has an uPod mini. i would go with the mini. they hold 4 gig, can be used as a portable drive, look neat, and they're small. plus, there are lots of addon excessoryies u can get (radio transmitter, microphone, extra battery, etc.)

Thanks!

Have any color suggestions I should get?

Personally, I love my Dell DJ. I'm no fan of Dell either, but this machine is tops. I've had it a year now, and dropped it all kinds of times, but it still runs like a champ. The battery has a super long life and has never died on me, but the best bonus feature is the built in voice recorder that can record up to 10 hour segments. I use the voice recorder to get peoples phone numbers when I dont have a pen, or to record class lectures when I dont want to take notes. No other Mp3 player has this feature AFAIK.

Its f'n awesome and I'd reccomend it to anyone. Price is much better then the iPod too.

Do you use iTunes to purchase any music? If you do, it might be worth it.

How much are the Dell DJ's and what are their memory capacities? I'm in Australia, and I know its not released yet. Anyone know when it will come to Australia?

Don't get a mini. For an extra 50 you can get the 20gb proper ipod, 5 times the hd space..

Minis are for posers.

$250US for a 20gig. They aparently dont sell the 15 gig anymore, which is what I have, and it seems that the new lineup doesnt have voice recording. Sheit. Maybe I wouldnt reccomend Dell anymore. Well, I guess it still is cheaper then iPod.

Damn, maybe they'll have the 15GB voice recording one in Australia.

I wouldn't go with the Mini, especially if you live in Canada where the Minis are only about $50 cheaper.

iPod mini is not worth the money if you're looking at mp3-player's with that amount of storage.

I'd go with the Creative Zen Micro instead. In fact, I did. I was considering bying the mini but damn, common sense came in the way of things and I ended up with a Zen Micro instead. So far I haven't regretted it one second.

First of all, it's 5 gigs of storage, and second of all, it's much cheaper than the mini. It's win right there. But then, there's a whole lot of other things, like FM Radio with 32 presets, easy to use touch pad interface (which is pretty much a ripoff from Apple's, but hey, theirs is kickass so I don't see anything wrong with it) it can function as a portable disk, it's smaller, you can change the 12h batteries, and I even got an extra battery when I bought it. According to tests the sound quality is better in the Zen Micro, though I think you'd need pretty good headphones and pitch to notice any significant difference.

Not to mention the fact that everybody else already have an iPod of some sorts. It's nicer to have something not everybody else already have.

yea my dad just got a zen...we are sending it back for a new one something was wrong with it...but my brother and friend have it and i must say it is alot better then an ipod...cheaper and holds the same as the 20gb..and also it comes with the carrying case and possibility to upgrades...i suggest this

edit:24 hr battery life is nice too

Couldn't agree more, at the same time though I know plenty of people with 20GB iPods who won't fill up the damned thing for another 40 years. The iPod mini isn't the best value for money for its capacity/size vs Price, and so many people have them nowadays that there ain't nothing special about owning one.

A 20GB iPod is great, but not many people actually have the need to go out and buy one considering the tiny footprint of their music collections. Also, anything offical you hear about the battery life of these things was almost doubled from the reality. I've had mine a half a year of moderate use and expect to get about 4/5 hours from it. When I first got it, perhaps it was 6/7 hours, but it soon loses its capacity, and I expect i'll have to get a new battery about a year after first buying.

Apple are an evil corporation too you know. Mactards will try to mislead you otherwise, but their stuff is just as overpriced and filled with convenient little moneymakers as the next big company.

i can speak for the 20gb creative zen touch. 24 hours battery life, better features than an ipod. much better if you were to ask me.
