In a literal application of the sharia law of an eye for an eye, Iran is ready for the first time to blind a man with acid, after he was found guilty of doing the same to a woman who refused to marry him.

Iranian media have reported that Movahedi will be blinded in both eyes but Bahrami, in an interview in 2009, said that the man would be blinded only in one eye because "each man is worth two women" under Iranian law.

Iranian officials have endorsed the the sentence in the hope of halting an increase in the rate of acid attacks. But human rights activists have warned against an "inhumane" sentence.

In recent months, human rights organisations have expressed alarm over the unprecedented increase of capital punishment in Iran, which last year executed more people than any other country apart from China.

Guy's a total dick and deserves it, but does that mean it should be done by the state (loliran)?
I'm far from convinced that eye for an eye justice solves anything. With the death penalty for murder there's no evidence that it serves as a deterrent.

Also holy shit if they blind him in only one eye that's even more messed up.

The "an eye for an eye" approach is idiotic, however I think life in prison would be appropriate for someone that blinded another person and most likely mutilated their face with acid.

I get what your saying, but think of house easy it would be. Put it in a glass and splash it on her face.

Perhaps it was circumstance though, the acid was there and he decided to use it. I don't know.

Anyway, this doesn't seem right to me. I can't explain it, but my gut tells me that this is not right.

Depends on the country, here in Europe and in the Middle East I only ever hear of it being used against women who the perpetrator usually feels has wronged them somehow.

I saw a documentary about a young British woman, she was an up-and-coming model, until she broke it off with her current boyfriend who then got a friend of his to throw acid in her face. It got a lot of attention in the British media, especially since the girl was white and the boyfriend and his friend were coloured.
