Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has courted further controversy by explicitly calling the Nazi Holocaust of European Jewry a "myth".

"They have created a myth today that they call the massacre of Jews and they consider it a principle above God, religions and the prophets," he said.

On live TV, he called for Europe or North America - even Alaska - to host a Jewish state, not the Middle East.

This is looking bad...

more of the same radicalized rhetoric meant to stir up the dimwitted

he's a religious conservative ..not surprising as they're prone to say stupid things:

"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians."

- Pat Robertson

okk, that guy is juast insahne.

Omg, we must invade him!
Solaris, for God's sake that was not the point of this thread. Start a thread about the invasion of Iran or just keep quiet.
How is it possible that we could see what is quite obviously a purposefully inflammatory speech (I'd wager that the president doesn't necessarily believe there was no holocaust, he's just baiting) and say, "Well it's ok that he should say this - what all this is really about is the proposed invasion of Iran."
They are not the same thing. I see where you're going - I mean both subjects (this speech, the invasion) mention Iran, after all - but just no.
Ahem - excuse me. I'm done.

On-topic: Where's Mel Gibson's dad when you need him?

there's more:

"I'd like for you to take - but your paper might not allow you to do it - and that is to take the Jewish element in the ACLU which is trying to drive Christianity out of the public place, and I'd like to see you do the something objective there. Because the ACLU is made up of a tremendous amount of Jewish attorneys."
- Billy McCormack (Director of the Christian Coalition)

"AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharaoh's charioteers."
--Jerry Falwell

"We've got to have some common sense about a disease transmitted by people deliberately engaging in unnatural acts."
--Senator Jesse Helms

"The New York Times and Washington Post are both infested with homosexuals themselves. Just about every person down there is a homosexual or lesbian."
--Senator Jesse Helms

"Oh, you're one of the sodomites. You should only get AIDS and die, you pig. How's that? Why don't you see if you can sue me, you pig. You got nothing better than to put me down, you piece of garbage. You have got nothing to do today, go eat a sausage and choke on it."
- Michael Savage

"The real liberators of American women were not the feminist noise-makers, they were the automobile, the supermarket, the shopping center, the dishwasher, the washer-dryer, the freezer."
--Pat Buchanan

"There were no politics to polarize us then, to magnify every slight. The 'Negroes' of Washington had their public schools, restaurants, bars, movie houses, playgrounds and churches; and we had ours."
--Pat Buchanan

"I'm an old-fashioned woman. Men should take care of women, and if men were taking care of women today, we wouldn't have to vote." Kay O'Connor US Senator

"Men in the pro-choice movement are either men trapped in women's bodies...or younger guys who are like camp followers looking for easy sex."

It's very strange how many crazies there are.

Who's not being serious now?

Oh actually I'll hedge my bets; no-one gets sarcasm, damn them. Yes I am joking. Yes all the above comments/quotes disgust me.

You're good at this. It's like when Kirovman tricked AL into thinking Absinthe really had died. :p

That's some scary quotes, stern. How fundamentalists like these got to power I will never understand.

Can someone explain the Iranian beef with the Jews? Last I checked, Iranians don't even consider themselves a member of the Arab community...they consider themselves Persian if I'm not mistaken. Obviously simplified.....but wasn't the problem along the lines of Jews on arab land. Someone aid my ignorance of this developing situation.

Thx Stern. That's what I was thinking.....it's just been a while since I revisited this subject....usually not involving Iran.

Now, my question is haven't the Iranians pretty well exhausted their arabic allies....ie....they don't have many? And if so, could this be viewed as an attempt to rally support among nations that feel much stronger about the existance of the jewish state....as in....does Iran hear the gears of war turning? Are they trying to build alliances in the arab world that may have been shot??

Well, the iranians are mostly shia, while most of the middle-east, except for Iraq has a majority of Sunnis. As you know, Iraq was rules by Sunnis under Saddam, which meant that Iran was the only "true" shia state. But now, after Iraq was "liberated", the shias have once again come to power there, and maybe Iran and Iraq can start bonding, seeing as they are the only two countries in the Middle-East with a majority of Shias in their country.

Ugh....it breaks my heart to see this kind of garbage going on in the middle-east.
We need more moderate, soft-spoken, intelligent people on this earth for God's sakes.

On a side note, who is willing to guess how long the borederline inevitable war in Iran is going to explode? Before Bush takes his leave perhaps?

I was listening to an interview last night with Iranians nationals, mostly woman's rights advocates, professors, doctors etc. They say the average iranian hates the current government on domestic issues but when each person was asked in turn what they though would happen if the US invaded. To a person they all said that it would be ww3 and they would fight to the death to defend their homeland

imo it's inevitable, so long as there's interests in the military-industrial complex in taking over regimes hostile to their interests the threat of invasion is a real one

To be Honest I doubt all of those people were serious and maybe quoted out of context...

But I also find the Bush Sr. one hard to believe....source maybe?

This guy is just trying to stir the pot and seeing how far he can take his hateful message without being slapped by the world community.

But he's just asking for trouble, especially with the world's only superpower led by a renegade Christian cowboy who has already invaded countries for far less...;(

Robert Sherman: "Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?"

Bush: "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

I checked most of the quotes before posting ...none were taken out of context and ALL were dead serious

Problem is that all the intelligent people know that politics is over run with idiots and morons already. They would commit suicide after having to deal with these people for more than a year.
