You have GOT to be ****ing kidding me. There's no way in HELL I'm going to be paying taxes for a video game when I'm not dealing with real money. I'd sooner revolt and destroy the IRS before that happens. I play video games like that hoping to escape life for a little bit of my own untainted enjoyment, and if the real world starts affecting me in that way, I'll snap.

I'll snap dammit!
 
When will some people realize that there is a line between Reality and Games?
 
I don't know about usa tax laws, but untill something of value changes hands, in a public venue, the tax man has nothing to do with it.

Because the EULA of ALL mmorpg's render externally sold currency/items effectivly useless, no item sold has a real world value, thus the tax man has nothing to do with it.

Basically, in the UK, the games EULA would have to allow external sale of in game assets, and you would have to be selling them commercially before the tax man can poke his nose in. Simple as that.
 
Except... there's not. That's the whole point. That line is becoming increasingly blurred, to the extent that shit like this happens. It alarms me, but doesn't surprise me in the least.
