Is 350W PSU good enough for 6800 GT?

Well 350 is enough for the normal 6800 128mb version, but i dunno about the GT. Ask a store, or hope for a reply from a computer genius.

If it is a quality PSU it is good enough and it should work well enough even if it isnt. The rest of the system specs would help. Just dont go using 5 optical drives, 4 hard drives and 5 PCI card with the 6800gt. Also the 6800 card did recieve tuning after their initial preview cards were made so they dont need 500 watt power supplies.

I would guess the card would run but if you can find a good price PSU then I would upgrade to save you any problems or instability.

Ive done it with a 2600+ 6800 gt NF-7M and 2 hd with no crashes what so ever, on 350 or 300 cant rember but it did work.

ive got a 2800 athlon 64, 512 and recently added a 6600gt and ive got a 300w power supply. my machine has occasionally started throwing hissy fits and crashing on me. so im probably gona get a bigger power supply, i mean the box says i need a 350w psu, i didnt beleive them but i guess theyre right

If it's a 350W Antec/Enermax/Zalman/SilentX/OCZ .... Yes

If it's a 350W Q-Tec/Unbranded forget it. Actually even if it was a 550 Q-Tec ... forget it. Yes some Q-Tec 550W are good... other's set on fire. Your choice.

Haha thats better than me. I've had to underclock my athlon 3000 to a 1700+ to keep it stable on my 240watt PSU. Apart from the whole computer being underpowered, my cpu needs 20 amps on the 12volt rail. Mine can only supply 10.

Which brings me to my point. Large wattage is important, but you'd best check out everything else ie like my amperage situation.

You'll find those peoples computers are actually running slower than they should be. The CPU would be underpowered one way or the other, and so would the Hard Drive. Underpowered HDD = huge loading times for the OS and everything else on it.

well then i guess u and these other pple are lucky because i have talked to two pple who bought the 6800 and tried it on their 250watt PSU and the PC kept shutting down.
i guess like some pple have pointed out, if the PSU brand is good then u can manage with the current one....otherwise a new PSU would be a safe bet.

i've also read several success stories with 200w so I doubt these people are experiencing slow loading times, asked them on overclocking forums they said they had no problems whatsoever

im running a 6800gt on a piece of shit $60 case that came with 400w and she runs a beaut- btw how do you check what your comp's REAL power supply is? I mean, if they often overstate what the psu is, then how can you find out?

If it's a quality power supply with a higher price tag, it's good.


Sounds unfair I know! Sorry, but without going into deep details about measuring N+R values, or load values using complicated equipment (flukes, measurement preamps, etc)... it's difficult

Seriously though, it just depends on reputation of PSUs, hence my list above, and yeah, the thermaltake should have also made the "good" lot list.

...Yeah sure they have the same functions, but which one has quality,reliability and will last longer?

Not all PSUs are created equal. A watt rating from one PSU does not give the same power as another PSU with the same rating. It's a little more complicated than just Watt ratings to actually find out how much power a PSU is going to give you and on each rail.
