Is 9800SE the same as 9800 pro?

That's not a Pro.

*Edit*

And I'd reccomend a 6800 Non-Ultra over a 9800 Pro.

A 9800SE performs similar to a 9600XT.
A 9800Pro (256Bit) 128MB is the best choice in the 200$ range for AGP cards.

While I agree, I think the extra 70 to get a Non-Ultra is the best 70 someone could spend. :)

Just like when you get a rental car-> Paying the extra 15 so you can blow the car up is totally worth it. :naughty:

I'm personally not a fan of the 6800 NU. It isn't good enough to be high end and it isn't cheap at all. That 100 could be saved and used for a future upgrade or for something else.

The 6800 has horrible memory bandwith which limits its ability to use AA. For $300, you should be demanding AA. IMO it doesn't even have adequate performance to justify its $300 price tag.

300? It's only 250 bud. You're right, it isn't high end. And the 9800 Pro is? No, not anymore. The 6800 performs just fine with AA.

1024x768 on High 4xAA with 88 frames isn't "Adequate performance" for you? Freak...

*edit*

1600x1200 4xaa 53 FPS. That card pwns for 250 bucks.

And that's not even OC'd. Those OC great.

I thought the ATI cards were especially good for HL2?

That's just marketing. :)

Once again: I'm not an nVidia Fanboy. I had a 9800XT that I loved. Until I had to sell it because I was a little tight on cash... :(

Edit* Woops, I didn't mean to double post. Could you fix that Asus? Thanks man.

But you are using CS:S benchmarks. I have a X800 Pro and it sneezes its way through CS:S with 6 AA and 16 AF enabled.

The 6800 NU is a $300 retail card. That is why it is 275 online. ;)

I'm not saying its a bad performer, I just don't recommend it. Especially when you can get a rock solid 9800 Pro for $100 less and nearly the same performance.

Yes, I'm refering to CS:S benchmarks, where is the problem? Your X800 Pro is a 400+ dollar card, ofcourse it's going to "Sneeze it's way through". We're talking about a 275 one. I don't know where you're getting this "Nearly the same performance" stuff. With the newest drivers, the 6800's are smokin' the 9800XT's. Not even OC'd. The 9800 can be modded into a 9800XT (Improving shader performance) But the 6800 can be modded to open up the other 4 pipes. Which basically turns them into a underclocked 6800 Ultra without DDR3. (Kind of like an Asus 9999, but opposite, hehe)

No. http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4082672?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

I say you spend the extra 70 and get a 6800 instead of getting a "Solid 9800", which is going to start showing it's age real soon, you won't regret it.

Instead of getting a SE version it's usually best to gow with the best model of the card down.

Ie, instead of 9800 se, go 9700 Pro (if you can find one) or 9600 xt.

I don't know, but a lot of people is saying that the 9800 pro is a great card, does the xt have a bigger diference than the pro ?

I ended up getting the 9800 Pro from Fry's. Runs nice thus far, but my 394 mbs of RAM doesn't seem to be sufficient enough to run CSS smoothly.

Well, considering he is asking if a 9800SE is the same as a 9800Pro I doubt he would even consider a 6800NU.

What makes one card really better than another? If it can bring the best resolutions and quality at a playable level. The 6800NU doesn't do that over the 9800pro. Sure it gives you more FPS at 1024x768 or maybe a little AA/AF but what about when you turn up the resolution or up the AA/AF level? Put demand where you really want to use it.

COD
Enemy Territory
UT2004
Deus Ex2
Farcry
Painkiller
Tron 2.0
America's Army
Splinter Cell
Tomb Raider
Thief
Would you pay that much more for that graphic card? Would others? Maybe...Maybe not.

If you didn't mind refurbished, you could buy a Sapphire 9800Pro 128MB (256Bit) for 155$.
I will say the 9800 Pro's seem to be getting a little thin for supply.
And that is the best price for a 6800NU i've seen. Most are $275+.

Glad you like your 9800Pro.
If you have any applications open running in the background or system tray, try turning them off. Or just watch for a good sale on some 256MB or 512MB memory. ;)

<<Has a ATI 9700 Pro in each machine, great low cost card usually about $140 off Ebay.

I said using the newer drivers. Those benches are 4 months old. :(
