Is ANYTHING being done to fix the loading screen freeze?

Hey guys, I have a pretty good computer. Amd 3200xp, x800pro, gig of ram, nf7-s mobo.

I shouldnt be having problems with this game, but everytime I load HL2 I see the guys with the valve in his eye, then it goes to the blurry loading screen and it freezes, I have no clue why. I also want to know if they are planning to fix this in the next patch.

Also, I would like to know if anyone else has this problem. If they do, are you still able to run CSS? I want something to play.

It's not a glitch with the program, but with the Steam loader. Turns out, the updater in Steam says it's done when it's really not. In the "Play Games" menu, right click "Half Life 2", then go to "options". It should say that it needs updates. In that case, open the game normally, and it will go to the blurry loader screen and freeze. DO NOT CLOSE THE PROGRAM!! It's finishing installing updates, but (for God-knows-what-reason) there's no indicator (Task manager eveen says it's not responding, but it really is; trust me). If you get incredibly pissed off and don't believe me, ctrl-alt-del the program, go back into options for HL2, and you will see that the loaded percentage is more than it was before.
Just load the game, let it "freeze" while updating, maybe go get a bite to eat, and it will work fine. I had the exact same problem until I noticed this, now it works fine. Best of luck :E

i had the same problem this is what worked for me. right click on the hl2 icon on your desktop go to proporties and where it says target put in +mat_forcehardwaresync o +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1 you put this after what it already says in the target area make sure you put a space between what it already says and the new line to put in its a lot easier to copy the line from here and paste it to the target area. hope this helps you like it helped me good luck.
