is athlon xp gd enuff

sorry if this question has been asked a million times before. but my prossessor broke last night and i need a new one. i had an athlon xp 2800 "barton". i know hl2 comes out in a few days and i wanna be able to play it at decent settings. ive a 6800 ultra. and i might get an amd64. got 512mb of ddr400 ram. if i get a 64 bit amd do yall think itll work nice.

If you know what all that stuff is you should answer your own question... yes you'll probably be able to run everything on high and play it nice and smooth.

yes, but you will need a new motherboard with the right socket to go with the 64bit processor. Most likely a 754 socket. But not all 64bit processors are socket 754.

yup i know i need a new a motherboard. it broke with hte processor.sumthin todo with a dodgy psu

Im sure you could play at highest settings (probably with full aa and af) with the system you had. But if you have the money go ahead and get a s939 64 (preferably fx) or whatever. You would not need another upgrade for a long time. S754 wont last nearly as long as s939 (iirc).
