Sometimes my game crashes on the css beta, then when i try to reload it doesnt, it looks as if it would cause i se the little time thing next to my mouse, but then nothing loads. I check whats running on my task manager and it shows CTHELPER at 100%....is it apart of CSS?

If i'm not mistaken CTHELPER.exe is a creative installed program. So no, it has nothing to do with CS, but could be a cause of the problem (soundwise maybe).

/edit: seems i was right : look here
shouldn't be a problem just closing it down.
Hope that helps

CTHELPER.exe is a program part of the soundblaster Audigy intall. It tries to make sure that your speaker settings are maintained, AFAIK.
I find that it's fairly useless and remove it from my registry and I find that it no longer bothers you; unless you decide to re-install your sound drivers that is.
Get rid of it, and maybe it will fix any problems you are having.

i always thought it was part of norton
guess not
anyways i removed it from my startup, useless

CTHelper causes nothing but problems for me, until I removed it I couldn't shut my computer down properly because it would end up having an error at shutdown and would freeze the computer.

Its basically completely useless and seems to cause nothing but trouble.

I let my run because for some reason i take it out it wont auto change my speaker settigns.

yer the CT stands for creative taskbar methinks
nothin but trouble it is.
does everyone use creative?

thx guys, i usually have to go to proccesses and terminate it and it has that thing asking "blah blah if you terminate this oyu could lose data etc etc" and once i shut it off...boom...0% cpu usage

Yeah, another reason why creative drivers are...a pain.

I also have that issue and that is why I've been thinking about going back to my onboard sound. Whenever I use creative sound cards generally there are errors or issues like this. Although it seems to be something with the HL2/CSS game right now.

No need to give up the ghost on creative drivers. CTHELPER is a pain in the ass and sloppy coding, but the core drivers for Audigy and Audigy 2 ZS are fairly stable.
If you are planning on playing HL2 at it's best, then I would suggest you give your onboard sound a miss. Having a dedicated sound card far in a way surpasses the integrated variety. Of course this depends on how many speakers you have. If you only have 2 speakers, then stick with on-board. :)
