Is Dell Pc's Good?

Depends on the specific setup of the pc.
What specs do you have in mind?

Huh?

I'm A Pc Nerd But What Are Specs,o Shit, Its Specifics,ha.um For Specs, Just A Compleate Compatible Gaming Pc.my Dad Works For A Company And Dell Goes Through His Work So They Use Dells, custom Made And I Can Make A Custom Made Pc Dell For $300 For Gaming.cool Huh?

$300 won't get you something that can play hl2... It would buy some RAM, or a video card, but not a decent computer.

Dells suck for gaming unless you get a newer XPS system which is still over $1,000. Build your own PC if you're a "pc nerd."

Mine is a custom dell, works fine with games.
I got a 6800GT with this one along with a 3.40GHz.

Is it a $300 dell, c'mon now....You pay for what you get.

Pretty much worth it.
Costed me 1900$ total.

I'm using a 1 and a half year old Dell machine, and it runs HL2 like a dream. The only trouble is, as soon as I try and alt tab or use anything on the desktop, it starts to slow down... I swear I heard it utter "kill me" when I was compiling a CS map once.

You see Dell give you decent hardware for cheap prices, but usually they're not 100% compatable (plus I think I have a crappy motherboard). Dell is probally the only PC manufacturer I would buy from though, apart from alienware ;)

I'm using a dell right now....

No they're not good.

I used to use nothing but Dells, until my new baby (*hugs beautiful case*). Anyway, I can honestly say that (in my experience) they're crap. My mom, dad, and brother are using Dells, and they get crappy performance and low stability. Each one of them has had a hard drive die at least twice in the the past 2 years! (actually, that's probably a different issue...) The point is, Dells are exactly what they seem: budget computers.

come on, dells arent that bad, sturdy built, just the Dimension are not exactly meant for gaming, the other XMS or whatever range are.
my sisters dell, is about 7-9 years old now, the hard drive has just started to die. its a Maxtor. 10GB. P2 400MHz 128MB RAM. can you believe that was "THE LATEST" technology when we first got it?
the upper range dimensions give u about a gig of RAM and a well decent graphics card. but u pay quite a bit.
id personally build your own.
when u build your own, youl never want a shop-bought again

I'll just say I vehemently oppose Dell PC's. They fail in all 3 categories of computers

1) Hardware
2) Software
3) Support

Anybody but Dell.

i have a dell 8400 which is basically just a step down from the xps,the only thing the xps had over what i got was a better power supply, case and fan i believe,my dell hasnt caused any probs,i was gona build but didnt know much about it plus it would have cost around the same where i am as theres not as much choice when building.dells support was great for me too, they walked me through the xp reinstallation guide and even took the phone charges.1 thing i dont like is they dont give you a guarantee, you have to PAY for it,so i had to pay a extra 300 euros just to get it guaranteed for 3 years incase i got a faulty part etc

Dells are for the people that can't figure out (or don't want to figure out) how to build your own. Dell computers are built to make profit not to be good machines. The good dells (if they exist will cost you more then they are acctually worth. If u need something just primarly for surfing the web and dunno much about computers, dells are for you, ive had a dell laptop and I can tell you now it was pure crap, and I sold it. But I have had allot of experience with dell machines and computers in general I build them for a hobby. That is my opinion and I will never buy a dell, allthough a friend of mine stole one from his work and we scrapped it for parts to build family members machines. They are good for the grandma or the older mom/dad and the computer retarded.

I bought a Emachines a while back..like Aug 2003.
Slapped a 9600XT and 256 more megs of ram in it runs HL2 very nice.

Costed $400 for the comp.
Of course its nothing special but Emachines did supply a very nice case to alter things in aswell as when taking the case off(Don't need a screw driver to take the case off)

So there cases a nice to take stuff apart..I remember it took forever for me to take the case off of an HP when I was younger.

Emachines aint bad if you play to custom the graphics card...and alot of other things...

Yeah, emachines aren't bad like they used to be.
Just make sure it has an AGP slot. :-p

I personally do not like Dell. I don't support them or buy their machines. Pretty much everything is through them, even memory upgrades on some of their machines. Not something I want to be chained down to.

One of the things I don't like about retail PC's though is that a majority of them don't have space for an extra harddrive anymore. Also sometimes the PSU is different so you have to order through them. And then all of that software! :x

Now if you are the kind of person who wouldn't care about those things and would go through them anyway then it Retail PCs probably don't bother you. Although I still wouldn't recommend Dell.

Exactly X-Factor (and others), Dell could be pretty good, depending on the specs, but it's pretty much for people who want the computer built for them. Needless to say, I will always build my own. And about the $300 thing, I think since his dad works for them, or whatever he said, he will be getting some sort of discount. Obviously $300 wouldn't normally give you anything close to a gaming PC, but I think maybe he will because of his dad, or something. I don't know, just trying to guess. Maybe you could clarify, dell dude?
