Is half life 1 scary?
And will you want Half Life 2 to be scary?

I'd say yeah.

Not super scary. But there are lots of parts where stuff jumps out at you or you see things that are just really genuinly scary. (very large things scare me and my friends.....my friend drew is deathly afrade of wales......hl has lots of scary big stuff :) )

That's not scary. Scary, for me, is "if that happened to me in real life I'd have a heart attack," then afterwards you start seeing stuff like that, or imagining it happening. Well, that's what scary stuff does for ME, like a good horror movie, you fear going outside in the cold of night :) lol

Uh .. yeah.

BTW, do you know what your avatar says?

yea :smoking:
Well it has different meanings when it is used with different charaters. It can be the front of a car or it can be be a little hut. It is also the name of the first Chinese Emperor. :naughty:

It can also be generosity, well, not exactly, but it has this subtle meaning.

It was really scary when that focking big fish grabs you and it warps your view. Or, like fender said, when stuff jumps out at you.

Oh yeah and the assassins reeeally scared me with their "pitpatpitpatpitpat" "powpow" "pitpatpitpat"

Nah, not scary to me. Then again I'm always into games like SH, and RE. It was scary when I was like 11.

i still havent played through it, its too scary, with the big monters and shit, man and poor barney biting the bullet over and over, ooooo, the humanity.

Surprisingly for my little nerve for anything remotely scary, this was nothing. It gave me that feeling when you meet the flood for the first time in Halo. It gave me the creeps, but nothing scary.

If I had the choice of playing Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc or be hung from my finger nails, I would choose to get hung by the nails.

Halo is quite scary at the library part. (boring as well)
Well I hope HL2 will not be too scary because I don't want to save game at every corner.

Polygons have a long way to go if they're ever going to scare me... I might be on the edge of my seat, but not frightened in any way whatsoever. Movies or books will never scare me again either. Its a shame. I'd kill for a storyline that gives me the creeps and keeps me up at night. That would have to be one damn effective game/movie/book. Never gonna happen again though. That possibility of that happening left with childhood. ;(

HL2 is gonna be really freakn' moody. I can tell already. You'r gonna be somewhere and be thinking, "aw man I don't like being here right now".

I got scared somewhat by certain parts of the game the last time I played it, but it was more of a adrenaline-higher than a scary game..

Some dude said in a HL2 beta thread that there were two kinds of monsters in the beta that made him drag his headphones off and jump off the seat... Sounds good !

now that is scary.
and yes, hl1 was scary. it was meant to be scary. and it wouldnt have been such a succsess is it wasnt scary. so it was scary.

Yeah, two Months ago was my 3rd time to Replay it, and the Level of panic never declined. Every time you play it you get the feelings OF ALIENS vs PREDator 2.

I flew off my chair everytime one of those Facehugging bastards jumped onto my face. But Aliens Vs. Predator certainly scared me even more!

Headcrabs were shocking in parts, even 3rd or 4th time through :p

I found it mildly creepy in parts first time through, but that's cause I'd play through the whole night.

Yeah, Alien VS Predator (the first game, not the sequel) was really scary.. I threw flares like a maniac even on the first level hehe, the music really amplified the horror , I could shit pants if encountering an alien without being "ready" for it...

*edit* I meant " I could shit MY pants" , but it's kinda funny so i left it there..
Like I was able to shit pants , instead of poop..

I still jump when a headcrab leaps at me in a darkened vent. I think HL was quite a scary game in places. The beginning (after the accident) really creeped me out, mainly because of the intro to gordons life before it. I really got the feeling that I was seeing people gordon knew dying instead of random, badly-drawn characters. I think HL2 will be even more scary than HL was, mainly because of the better graphics. Although it will have lost the element of claustrophobia I got from continually wandering the halls of black mesa. I expect some other cramped environments though, like sewers or something.

Has anyone seen the -new enemy- in HL2? Now they're scary.

I have seen them (I succumbed to the beta) and I think they are very scary. Almost made me jump out of my chair! You might want to edit that post though, it gives away a new enemy.

Really fast zombies...I must switch on the light and turn the speaker volume down in order to finish HL2.

First of all, I will assume you are being sarcastic. Second that you haven't played the beta. Did you find any part of HL scary? If you did you are guaranteed to find HL2 even better. If not, maybe you're just very hard to scare.

Maybe he isn't being sarcastic?

++Spoilers removed+++

Yes it was super scary when I first played it and I WANT HL2 to be super scary too.

I get scared easily. I was playing Morrowind and I was in this ancient ruin and I was walking up to this table with a lantern on it AND THIS STUPID FREAK MAN COMES UP BEHIND ME AND MAKES ME JUMP!

What's with all the spoilers here? Have the rules been relaxed or something?

Hell yeah HL1 was scary...when you first got contact with the Ichthyosaur it was scary as ****. Those things freaked me out. But towards the end of the game because it's so easy to kill them you don't fear them :(. I just go in with my crowbar and kill them in the water, they weren't very good at killing you. They'd get 1 or 2 hits at the most.

I was not being sarcastic :(
I am just scared of freaky monsters which will jump out in all a sudden. So sometimes I will have the radio or mp3s on when I am playing games. Strangely I do not find Natural Selection scary, but I do think the Far Cry demo is a little scary.

In HL1 I pretty rushed through the story so nothing is seriously scary. But some dark corridors did freaked me out. :O

Half life 1 was scary, with all the lights turned out, alone in my house, that was good times...

It made me jump a couple of times but it's not scary, I havn't been scared by a game for years. SS2 is the only game to ever give me a feeling of fear, I doubt it would now.

The D3 alpha didn't scare me, but looking at the newer movie (where that thing runs up the wall) it might be in with a chance if i can convince myself the walls arn't made out of plastic and ID get rid of those monsters that look like there out of a cartoon. I doubt HL2 will scare me, the atmosphere is all wrong for that, but it might make me jump, I would love it if it did.

It's quite a challenge for a piece of media to scare me, I'v fell to sleep in horror movies before. Infact I really can't think of a film that has scared me since I was about 12, aliens 2 was a little tense at the beggining but it lost it as soon as it showed the aliens. Texas Chainsaw (the original) was a bit unsettleing but not scary....

They look like either weights for the lifter thingies or elevators of some kind..

The headcrabs from HL1 made me jump the very first time I saw one in the uplink demo. It appeared from nowhere in the shadows and scared me to death.. The Garg gets the old adrenalin going though, chasing you down long corridors right on your heels, knowing if you turn around it'll catch upto you in a second... I'd love to see an updated Source version of the Garg. That could be so very very very impressive. Would eat those Striders for breakfast, hmm. If only :( Maybe if we petition Valve they'll promise to add one to City 17? :):)
