It looks like it, but I'm not really sure. In the train station it looks like its in place in the skylights before you reach the security station. Also the bright flood lights seem to have a HDR type effect going on as well.

I'd answer you.... if only I had the high quality vid! grr.....

But from the low quality vid, it certainly does look sort of like it.

Hard to tell from High-quality too, because the compression makes colors bleed so much it's like a fake HDR effect. Can't tell if it's just normal overbright stuff we see in most games, or if it's really HDR.

Well it sure does look like it's HDR. I guess we'll know for sure when these new vids are released as Binks.

hmm i'm pretty confused! what did HDR mean? right now i'm so messed up i can't remember :p

so basically, it allows all the really glossy shiney effects, and adds to the realisim of surface materials... right?

I think the glossy shiny effect on surfaces is bump mapping. An example of HDR is the glow around objects when a bright light is behind them. If you remember the Source HDR bink video, with the shiny ant lion, the bright glow in around the windows of the attic room was HDR.

the special thing about it is the fact it isn't defined in the map, correct? So rather than have (like in HL) the mapper define bits where there would be light bleeding around the edges of something, it just happens?

Yes! HDR IS IN! You can tell in the flood lights in the high quality video. The overbright effect is totally dynamic and alters depending on what is blocking the light. So it looks like HDR IS being used!

I have seen both vids now - hi-res. ( Eurogamer & Gamespot )
Both have the effects as seen in the HDR demo. So that would be a definate yes!

It is utterly jaw dropping how good our old boy is looking now.

you see it in the G-Man intro on his face and his eyes, you also see it in various parts of buildings.

You see it clearly in the ign insider videos--which are soooo much better then the 700 MB quicktime video.

Are they really that better quality? Upload them somewhere then!!

Stop teasing us! :E

How big is that one then?

YES! the HDR is there, it's really fascinating really! You can see it from how the light spreads everywhere, beautiful. And of course from the windows light "rings".

You can See HDR in the CS part, when he look up at the bridge, well i think its HDR.

Digerati

The insider movies are high res. 640x480. THe presentations are split up into two 164MB wmp files. Id set up a torrent, but Im at work.

Yeah, HL2 is looking damn good. I think I'm back to my pre-Sept 30th excitment level and I'm almost as excited about HL1 and CS on source.
It's a good time to be a gamer. MGS3 looks INSANELY cool as well.

HDR sure is on, its pretty evident in some areas, but not over the top.

High Dynamic Range just means that the engine can render values out of the normal 32bit color range. u cant represent them on a monitor 'properly' so it just becomes a large white area.
