hey guys this is my first time posting on halflife2.net. I havent bought HL2 yet but i am this friday and ive been reading some post about people having problems installing HL2. Is this true if you could answer that would be great :)

No, it isnt hard anymore.

It was hard at first because the STEAM servers had an overload, causing you not to be able to log into STEAM.

Now, though, the jam is pretty much cleared away.

KEEP IN MIND THOUGH that you MUST DOWNOAD LOTS OF FILES WHEN INSTALLING THE GAME - AND UNLESS YOU HAVE A HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION, IT COULD TAKE OVER 10 HOURS!

Just a heads up! :)

I just double clicked my steam icon.. that was about it I think..

i have to download files?? but i run 56k :x hopfully it wont be dumb on me :|

Oh shit, 56k will take a LONG time.

Probably over a day, but it is worth it if you want to play the BEST FPS ever made for PC, that, my friend, is guaranteed. ;)

You dont have to download files if you buy the game.

You install it, then connect to the internet and unlock the game.

see i was going to buy the game in the first place so thats good

Either way you go, you'll be fine. Steam worked like a dream for me. I had the game downloaded and installed weeks before it was out, and a few minutes after release (midnight, when it was supposed to be insanely busy) I just clicked the icon, unlocked, and started to play, without a hitch. If only it was possible, I'd make every future game purchase over Steam.

Steam is still down, right now..I cant connect to it..

My Steam box is telling me I can't, since yesterday lunchtime

WTF IS GOING ON STEAM.......I CANT EVEN GET TO THEIR FORUMS FOR HELP "vBulletin Message
The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later."

the problems started for me when I tried to connect yesterday and it had forgotten my username and password..strange I thought..? so I unplugged my network connect to try to go "offline" mode? big mistake...ever since then I cant even connect thru steam or access their servers? I deleted everything and got steam fresh..now it says "updating" then " cannot connect busy" or something..did they ban my IP for some reason ?? (Im using a company lan here) this is very fustrating..

On 56k it took me an hour and a half to install..15 mins..unlock and update files..1hr 15 mins..which I consider bad enough when your buying the game from a retail outlet.

I'm used to fiddling/downloading files, drivers etc. But for the more casual PC owner it's things like this that will drive them to consols for gaming.

Also if I need to reinstall or format I'll have to go through all again, so YES I'd call it a pain...

Gathered from official Valve statements, as far as I can tell, if you authenticate your HL2 online and THEN burn it to CDs or a DVD (or copy it to a removable harddrive or whatever) you won't have to deal with that again if you reformat your drive later.
