Is it lag or the hitboxes?

While playing css I was spectating someone and they shot someone with a pistol as they were running by. He just missed their head but it killed the enemy with a headshot even though the enemy was like 2 feet away.

Its the Hitboxes. they seem to be a bit laggy but i dont know if there 2 feet off. Some might have to do with the online lag. But its a pretty big issue that needs to be fixed

they're not too bad, if you look at them in the model viewer... but when combined with lag, they become horrible.

yep they lag behind the player, as opposed to Halo PC in which you must lead the player. Generally it's not too bad.

also remember that spectator mode in not very accurate... hitboxes get better as you play more it seems

Didn't doom3 have that pixellated damage? everyone should use that.

i hear that takes up a lot of memory/processing power/etc, especially on a 20-40 person server.. remember doom 3 has a pathetic 4 person multiplayer

I guess Valve is already looking into it, trying to find a solution without slowing the game down.

I've experienced problems like this too - my ping was about 30 and I had the Steyr, And I saw someone running along, fired behind him just as he ran round the corner and somehow got a headshot, the blood spurts appeared out of thin air as he was already 2 feet round the corner :| . I see it all the time while speccing, but it seems to be alot harder to notice when your playing yourself.

Well something is definetly wrong with them. Every time a guy goes behind a corner I just keep shooting the place where he was and I still kill him :D

Ou and you can play doom 3 with 20 (even 32) players, tried it a couple of times, not too laggy.

yea I noticed that. I guy gives anothe guy A HS from shooting the pistol a few rounds and he's about 15 ft from the taget and you see blood spray from that 15ft away mark... its kinda weird. Blood spraying from midair.

My experience with the netcode of css are good, in cs 1.6 with a ping of >110 it was unplayable in css I can play with 190 ping, the hitboxes do screw up sometimes, but most of the times it just seems that way because of lag, more often the guy next to you shot the enemy when he was between his crosshairs but you see it as if the guy allready moved away. Css has exellent prediction systems.

its not the hitoxes...its valves "lag perdiction" code thats off a bit
sv_unlag 1
and you cant turn that off...
the hit boexs are fine and they dont lag behind and when you do spec some one you need to be aware that spec mode is not 100% right

The hitboxes are FINE, its the netcode that causes the hitboxes to lag behind the player. To fix the problem valve needs to create changes to the netcode, not to the hitboxes.
